Four Season Camping - Thoughts, Concerns, Opinions

Do you find the buddy heater is sufficient for warming things up in the morning/drying things out like ski gear?

Little Buddy heaters generate significant moisture and subsequent condensation in my experience. I’m looking toward an external propane heater like this that uses readily available fuel and eliminates diesel stench. This is the first I’ve seen of this class of propane heater….I expect there will eventually be more.

No experience using a buddy heater. I did score a chinese diesel heater here for cheap (that I just repackaged).

In my experience using it in the winter (with a winter sleeping bag in the tent), was that I only needed to run it in the very lowest setting when running it all night long. Any more and I would have needed a lighter sleeping bag. And even with the tiny tank, I never ran out of fuel on 3d weekends. If I were to go a whole week, might need to pack more diesel.

And it does a great job drying things out. I could see one using it on a higher setting as a morning only thing, but nothing worse than starting a day with cold, damp ice climbing/skiing boots.

To @KCKC’s point, I would like to move to the propex and loose the diesel for the smell, spillage, etc as pointed to me by @jedgar but as I have <$200 invested in the diesel heater setup so far, I’ll probably stick with it for the foreseeable future.

Where did you hear this?

Reliable source. Some big news coming in the next week.

I can’t wait to order it for Summer 2026

I was going to climb Mt. Saint Helens in November, an unexpected snow storm happened, my tent closed while I was in it sleeping in it due to the weight of the wet snow. I’d have a long snow tool/brush to clear off the roof if you plan on snow.

The Super pacific is so tempting with their promotional heater included. $3,500 value..

Just got mine installed. Not sure where you’re at in the 406 but let me know if you want to see it.

My bet is they’re announcing an insulated insert, but would love to see additional add-ons aka SuperPacific.

What if it was just something super underwhelming like branded tent stakes

I don’t understand all the secrecy drama. Is this what you are referring to?

Hey Jack,

We’re getting ready to roll out a new camper, called The MAX. Before the buzz really kicks up, we wanted to get ahead of it with a quick courtesy update on what this means for you.

Either, your build is already locked into our production system, or your truck falls into a category we aren’t supporting with the MAX (Rivian R1T, Honda Ridgeline, or Ford Maverick).

We’re reaching out now, because when new models launch, questions always fly—and we’d rather you hear it straight from us. Keeping you in the loop is how we make sure there’s no confusion or frustration down the road.

Here’s what’s awesome:

You’re still on track to get one of the toughest, most capable campers we’ve ever built—the GFC PRO Camper. This model isn’t going anywhere, t’s designed and proven for your truck, and it’s the gear we’d run ourselves without hesitation. You and your build are our top priority, and this courtesy note is about keeping things clear, honest, and stoke-filled as we prepare to launch this next model.

You may be wondering:

Why isn’t my truck supported?

The MAX is 18 inches longer and the geometry simply doesn’t work with the Rivian, Ridgeline, or Maverick. It why the PRO Camper is tried and true for those trucks.

If my build is already in production, can I change it to the MAX?

Unfortunately, no. Once a camper hits the production floor, it can’t be pulled and reset without disrupting the whole schedule. That’s how we keep promises and deliver on time. Some builds (including yours) just got complete or will be getting complete in the next week.

Thanks for riding with us—the best part is still ahead, and we can’t wait for you to get your new PRO Camper.

Don’t hesitate to reach out, if you have any questions. We’re here.

You mean this memo:

Just thinking outloud here

I see you have Honda in your bio,

for the maverick/ Ridgeline I get the idea that the truck bed is too short and there would be concern about the platform creating a cantilever, but for my Rivian I’m kinda scratching my head

An extra 18 inches would get rid of my DIY traction board space, but it would also put it ending right over the front OEM roof bracket. Considering they are using the rear port already, I’m wondering why they would not just add that length on the rivian and use an extra bracket (or move the existing one forward)

It could even make the camper look more streamlined, as the wind fairing would be right near the windshield line and not awkwardly halfway down the roof.

I imagine the extra length will support either an interior ladder like DirtBox overland, or a more manual pass through like Super Pacific

Along with the cheeky blurred instagram posts suggesting more interior height for bedding it looks they are also adding integrated cable routing, or some sort of waterproof passthrough solution

If I’m not mistaken, the extra 18 inches will make it the same overall length as the Super Pacific coming in at ~108 inches. Would be surprised if they didn’t include a pass through with that much additional space.

Did not see a video or read not to share. Guess I’ll be waiting until Tuesday to be blown away by this big secret.

I think the “not sharing” thing was directed at you and not to me. I’m just a nobody that GFC sends emails to with no such instructions. I’m not privy to any insider information.
