Heaters in the camper

California coast winter weather, so maybe low 30s at night, not crazy. I ran it on 75% for the first 10 min then backed it off to 50% for the remaining time. This and i have my fridge plus recharge on my phone/ iPad.
But im down to 75% by the next am, from 100 when I start the night.

Are you using this heater - https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0CBBMNCJQ/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_plhdr=t&aaxitk=dc6ee0a2a58f8ec199d487fb3d0aef69&hsa_cr_id=0&qid=1705612806&sr=1-2-9e67e56a-6f64-441f-a281-df67fc737124&ref_=sbx_be_s_sparkle_lsi4d_asin_1_title&pd_rd_w=hnlHK&content-id=amzn1.sym.417820b0-80f2-4084-adb3-fb612550f30b%3Aamzn1.sym.417820b0-80f2-4084-adb3-fb612550f30b&pf_rd_p=417820b0-80f2-4084-adb3-fb612550f30b&pf_rd_r=GAEH3ER0J7JPPE5D0HEN&pd_rd_wg=eM2hz&pd_rd_r=35d1fc1d-901b-45af-9d62-bf00c30d240c

Ordered the VEVOR 5KW with Bluetooth controls today to start my heater build. Plan is to put it in a box with the fuel that Iā€™ll hang off the swingout or front tire on a tire step.

Iā€™m hoping that itā€™ll heat the GFC and our Patriot camper so we donā€™t have to use the webasto in the Patriot for heat.

Iā€™ve been following this thread for some time but admit I still canā€™t fully embrace the concept. I just want to throw out an option that I havenā€™t seen discussed yet. I have no experience with this in my GFC, but have one installed in my boat. It is a diesel stove/heater combo made in Finland: marketed as a Wallas diesel stove/heater. It is far from cheap ($2693ā€¦ouch!) but the benefit is that you get a two burner cooktop in addition to a heater. When the top is up you have a two burner cooktop and when you drop the lid a small fan kicks in to blow air over the cooktop and into the cabin. Mine is built into the top of a small cabinet and overall is probably close to the same size as most of the heaters described on this thread. The cabin of my boat is probably close to the overall volume of the GFC with the tent open and it does a decent job heating the cabin here in coastal Alaska, and makes a quick job of boiling water. Another aspect that is intriguing from a GFC standpoint is that the small exhaust/intake tube goes through the bulkhead. It has the same pulse pump clicking most of the heaters discussed here exhibit and seems to use about the same amount of fuel. Only negative comment I have at all concerning mine is if I have the wind from just the wrong direction when running at 25 knots it will backdraft. Iā€™ve never had an issue at anchor, even with wind. So here is the link to the web page in case somebody wants to comment on the optionā€¦or ideally throw down a bunch of cash and try it outā€¦or better yet figure out a way to modify the design for the GFC and produce it here in the US. I havenā€™t seen them available from anybody except Scan Marine in Seattle. Interesting idea and Iā€™m always one for things that have multiple uses when space is limited but Iā€™m not looking for a permanently installed option in my GFC and I assume this couldnā€™t be removed as easily as a heater in a pelican type box.

For someone that doesnā€™t want/need an open bed and can sacrifice the space to incorporate this into the build it would be an option worth looking into. Itā€™s rated to 10,000ft but how well it works at altitudes above that.

Hey outside-your-camper-2kw-diesel-heater-folks - what are people using to duct your heat into the camper? I recently got a 2kw heater and it seems like the 60mm ducting is not as easy to find as the larger 75mm/3" that the 5kw units use. I am able to find short sections of the stiff foil lined 60mm ducting but ideally Iā€™d like something longer and more flexible for routing into the cubby in my Tacoma.

Thanks in advance!

Why do you route the exhaust to within inches of the unsealed tent door?

It actually is not that close, just looks that way due to angle of the picture.
Since it fits in my storage box perfectly after pulling off the muffler if decided to test like this and adjust if needed. There is zero exhaust smell in the camper, so I left as is.

Got mine installed last night.

This is exactly what I am planning! Great work, I like your blast gate, which one is that?

I think you are asking about my post above with pics. I went to my local West Marine and bought the smallest deck plate they had, which was I think 4.5". The 2nd gen Taco cubby gives you a little more than 6" to play with in there so it worked out.

Got my general mock-up ready. Just need good weather so I can cut the side panel and install the deck plate. The abs sheet keeps the vent from falling back out of the access.

Iā€™m going to round the edges and attempt to find a way to weather seal during use. Thinking of making some kind of rain awning that goes above the opening while open.

Thatā€™s committed right there, haha

Haha definitely, but it does slide back into the bed so I can still close the tailgate and I can take it out of the truck with four screws.
