That is exactly what I was going to do but wanted to see if someone else did it.
Nice! A recommendation for drilling through the panel, use a punch to mark your spot, then drill a small starter hole around around a 1/16th works great. From there I’d use a step bit to gradually work up to the size of hole you need for the pins. They cut really nicely through aluminum without grabbing like a normal drill bit. you can also use it to kinda chamfer the edge of the hole once you’re done. Also worth knowing you’ll void your warranty for that particular panel.

Mounting on the side panel was my original idea as well. I love the ease of grabbing them from the side instead of having to climb up top. Ultimately, I didn’t want to void the warranty which is why I ended up with the roof mount. Let me know if there is anything I can help with!

I would but two years ago I installed a vent fan at the location you mounted yours. I find the two solar panels and three beef racks is heavy when opening. How hard is it with the Maxtraxon top?
I am going to have to go with mounting on the side panel.
I find that lifting the roof with my one solar panel plus the Maxtrax is still pretty easy and the roof stays up when opened.
The side panel mounting is an excellent option, but keep in mind that you will likely need to upgrade the gas struts on the panel.

I measured dimensions for some L brackets and used SendCutSend. Your choice on the metal and thickness. Happy to share what I did and my dimensions. Requires some handiwork and patience to drill out the holes to mount to the T track as well as spray painting. There is an individual that sells kits here on the forum with the same idea.
Looks good. Thanks for the info. I have two 100 watt solar panels. Because of the solar panels I don’t have the space to mount it fore and aft.
But, I see your brackets are connected to the T-Track on the passenger side. How did you connect the inboard side?
They don’t need to be mounted parallel. Could be mounted perpendicular off the front or back if that is all you have space for.
The height of the mounted brackets has to be somewhat specific. I put an extra washer on the inboard mounting pins so that the nut sits barely lower than the outboard pins. And then some thick rubber pieces. This makes the inboard maxtrax mounting pins bolt/nut provide upward pressure on the bracket and the T track is providing downward pressure. It’s rock solid with the added weight of the maxtrax themselves. Here’s a close up picture.
Interesting! I would still prefer supporting both sides to the T-Track on both sides. I’m going to have to mount them on the side panels. Plus I can reach them on the side panels easier.

Thanks for the advice. I followed your instructions to mount them on the side panel and yes I need to upgrade the gas struts. Before I start hunting down new struts what struts did you upgrade too?
