Went out to a few places I’ve been this year to find that the atmospheric river event washed out roads I’ve been using for years, these were rough but sedan driveable until the end of Oct. Even parts of the power line road were wash out or unrecognizable as road anymore, pretty crazy. Must have been a heck of a flood. There’s no chance of repair so the inevitable loss of access is making me sad in the insides.
Poaching lots! Last night I had to drop the tent and sleep “downstairs” because the wind was so bad. -15 with the wind.
Northern Washoe County, Nevada. These are some of the roads leading to the base of Purgatory peak. I’ve been haunting the desert up here for a long time and it’s the first I’ve seen a road just basically up and vanish. Worse was the deep washouts that had filled back in with loose sand. Invisible foot deep potholes.
You ever haul around the moto on the rig? I was thinking of getting a rack to haul mine in the backcountry. Especially in Oregon and Washington
Set up on Keefer Lake FSR, in BC after teaching the field day for an AST 1 avalanche course. Woke up to -21C brrrr. Luckily my wife and I had our -30C sleeping bags and the diesel heater to take the nip off
Nice!! What Chinese diesel heater did you end up getting? Working well so far? Looks like you made the version in the toolbox.
It’s a Happybuy 5kW, it’s in a ‘flight case’ of sorts. We call them transit cases in the Telco. Now we just need our Renogy LiPoe Heated battery to show up to see if that relieves the stress of cold weather battery use.
At night it was 23C in the truck with the camper up until bedtime when I shut it off to conserve the battery. In the morning when we turned it back on we were long done breakfast and getting ready by the time it hit 15C in there (so maybe 1.5hrs).
A modern Clark W. Griswold!
Ooof that’s some rowdy hail damage
wishing they would jump in my freezer. I went bunny hunting the other day and saw nothing but a crap ton of deer. I filled my tags already so that’s how it goes
Good hangin’ out weather, not good skiing…-32C. Stayed in the truck one night; but the solar didn’t recharge the battery enough the next day to trust it for another night.
Almost got to test out the winch…I’ve been driving backroads for 20 years and I still try to push it too far with the trailer
Sweet bike. What kind is it?
Salsa Beargrease. It’s a hoot.
