Will Beef Bars work with Yakima Skybox?

Has anyone used the beef bars with a yakima sky box ? I know the other crossbar option will work for sure, but I love the look of the black beef bars. Also has anyone used any sort of box on their GFC?

I know others have used cargo boxes but I’ve only seen them used with Yakima round bars. I’d love to know if they work with beef bars as well.

Here’s how I did my Yakima Skybox install on Beef rack bars.

Hey! I’m prepping for a big road trip and want to use my skybox with beef bars for bulky lightweight items. How did your install hold up? Anything I should look out for?

it’s been no problem. But I put bulky stuff up there, not heavy stuff, and it sounds like that’s what you’re doing, so you should be ok. I have total faith in how I attached the skybox, but i did have to upgrade the support struts in the GFC too. which technically GFC doesn’t approve off because the mount points can shear off

I haven’t had any strut problems yet, touch wood. Maybe it depends on how strong you are and whether you can push up the roof evenly? Or when you close the roof I make sure both sides are fully down before I lock the levers in. Avoid twisting the roof as much as possible.

I should probably also add that I’ve done two long road trips since adding the Skybox. First trip was about 40 nights, the second 30 nights. The skybox has been on the truck since Aug 2022, and I haven’t taken it off because with the stronger struts I can’t close it without the skybox weight on there. In addition, I do about 4-5 weeks worth of camping trips per year. So I’m not full time camper, but I think that’s a decent amount of use. My GFC is #1879

Definitely a lot of use! Thanks for the info. I’m still debating using the t-track on the beef bar but a bit concerned about how secure that would be with wind force and all that

yeah, I’d just do the u bolt trick. don’t use a drill bit to widen the slot. get a step drill bit, that’ll work better. and in my slideshow photos, I originally thought the azek/pvc pieces would be under the box, but they worked better inside. just wanted to stress that
