2014 Ram Big Horn - Build out

Ya it wasn’t cheap. I had the plastic one that came from vevor for 3 years and just got sick of it leaking.

So the janky tank install above has been repaired. While it worked for the first outing with the diesel heater, which worked like a hot damn! There was no way it would survive being thrashed around in the back of the truck on winter logging roads.

So, I got the metal tank from Amazon installed and tested. I just self tapped it right to the frame!

Actually pretty happy with this setup. I wish I would’ve just done this to start. Yeah I may spill a little fuel now and then but at least the heater runs without turning off and on killing my batteries.

Back to actually being able to boondock for a few days without a charge.

nice paint job you got there, looks like my Rebel hahahahaha

around the same time I also had issues with my Renogy 50A DC-DC with MPPT, and it was just a year after I put that in. I ended up not dealing with Renogy Warranty and went with Redarc Alpha50. Way smaller unit/ footprint and better construction with built in bluetooth module.

I am way happier with the Redarc but the only downside is I can’t see Redarc displayed on Carplay while Renogy offers Carplay integration.

I’ll have to look at that unit for when this one fails, unless I can get warranty again  I’m pretty stoked on the truck. Now I just need the funds to get a work truck so I can stop putting so many miles on this rig.

Keeping my eyes peeled for a Power Wagon

PW is the way to go!

oh and Redarc is like double the cost but I expect it to last a long time. Reason why I steered away from Renogy is because how their aftersale department burnt my friend… when my friend was advocating for Renogy from day 1 of his truck build and even hosted events for Renogy. But if you have great success with the warranty then that’s all good.
