I’m behind the curve on posting updates of my build but thought I’d share a general overview. My camper began as Build #6230 installed in late July onto a 2022 GMC 3500 Denali Crewcab Longbed. I am told this is the first 8’ bed V2 Pro camper built.
I already had a Decked drawer system in the truck prior to camper install, and have been repurposing an ARB fridge from an Ursa Minor JK30 build that I still have for more serious offroad adventures. I can easily move the fridge between vehicles.
I have since added:
- Renogy 100W Solar Panel using GFC Beef Bar solar tray, plus Victron MPPT 75/15 charge controller
- Epoch 105AH bluetooth self-heating battery, with some DIY accessory power connections
- Victron Blue Smart IP67 13A AC charger to supplement solar charging when needed
- Camera Source factory rearview mirror camera relocation kit
- V2 Pro headliner received and installed after the fact
- Erberspacher AS3-D2L diesel heater hard mounted and tied into truck fuel tank.
For the Camera Source kit, I mounted the rear camera below the center brake light with the universal bracket included with kit, and the wire passed through same hole as brake light wiring after cutting a groove with needle file. There is another detailed writeup documenting installation of the same kit. Hot tip: while the headliner is removed for camera cable reconnection, the factory CHMSL wire is located in same area and can be tapped into and hot wire added to the wire loom for rear brake light operation. Wiring diagrams from GM Upfitter will point you in the right direction.
Epoch battery was installed under front driver side hatch of Decked system, and secured with ratchet strap to support braces. The solar charge controller is mounted just above battery along wall of truckbed. The AC charger is also mounted next to this (as seen in other photos) and can be plugged into factory 400W AC outlet in truckbed for secondary charging method while driving or from shore power.
The diesel heater ended up going under passenger side front hatch. I drilled a 5" hole for turret mounting plate, dropped fuel tank to add standpipe to fuel sender unit, secured air intake and exhaust lines under truck, mounted heater control near accessory power box I built, and secured a heat duct at front right of camper.
The heater fired up on second attempt of the fuel pump self priming, and it ran great for first 30 minute test run. Looking forward to putting it to use for some overnighters this ski season.
With the Hest dually I’m ready for upstairs and/or downstairs sleeping.
