Has anyone had any success with wiring in their third brake light in to their 6th gen Ranger? I have a 2024 Lariat FX4 off-road and just got a written warning for driving without it functional. Time to get off my butt and figure this thing out so I don’t get a real ticket with a price tag!
I have only seen one post for a 5th gen Ranger with incandescent taillights, and one Ranger Raptor - but I have been told that the wiring is slightly different on the RR’s? - so I’m hesitant to follow those guides and trigger the sensor issues that lot’s of folks have talked about. I understand that I could just remove the camper and wire into the 3rd light on the top of the cab, but that’s a lot more work and would require adding some holes/plugs to the bulkhead, so it’s not my preference until I’ve tried the taillight and/or trailer controller systems.
If anyone’s got a bit of experience (and a lot of patience), I would sure love to ask some questions! There’s only one shop in town that does work like this and they are gonna charge me a few hundred bucks for the work… I’d love to avoid that, if I can.
I have a 25 F150 with a similar issue. My understanding form the innerwebs is that you can’t just splice into one of the rear break lights as I did will my old truck and toper because the newer trucks measure the current and resistance some how, so splicing into the existing light will will cause a fault/error to be thrown. When trying to figure mine out I found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yS_xVjt5h4M on where to find the wire that may or may not be pre wired…..If you have it then you juts run it through the bed however you want. Hopefully the Ranger is similar to the F150. If not, another option might be to find a shop the installs toppers like Leer, they might be familiar enough with your truck and just be able to tell you the easiest way. good luck
Thanks for the response on this! I didn’t spy a blunted wire I could connect to, but that might be an option worth investigating further.
I actually messaged 74Weld on instagram since they have a RR that’s got the light wired and their response was, in full: “you can just tap into the taillight”… haha helpful! Spent over an hour with a friend and his multi meter testing the wires on the driver-side taillight and trying to get a connection with the existing wiring that came with my V2 Pro Camper. It sadly didn’t cooperate and I am no closer to getting this problem solved.
Maybe I truly have to take it in to a shop to wire it into my brake control module in the engine bay? Sucks. Would love to know more from some of the shops that have wired their GFC’s to their Rangers!
