Feedback on success of routing solar wires through panel seams

Before I drill a hole through the panel I saw that some people route their solar wiring through the side panel seams with no damage to wiring or water leakage.

Anyone can provide feedback on how thats held up? Wiring needs to be replaced after 2x years? etc?

Just picked up used GFC. Prior owner did that. Had wire going through top of side panel just behind cab, sealed it with rubber silicon. Panel works. Not the cleanest. Probably drill hole and use rubber grommet might be cleaner looking.
