I noticed that you open the tailgate before opening the hatch, is it possible to open your hatch withOUT doing that? Mine is horrible, it sticks so hard that the lip gets bent down. I posted a thread about it on this forum. I filed a warranty claim. The design is faulty, the seal gets trapped on top of the Ranger plastic trim. The lip of the hatch should extend down and wrap around the tailgate, with a bulb compression seal that mates with the BACK of the tailgate, not the top.
I wonder if GFC will start reimbursing Ranger owners when the plastic tailgate trim pieces start breaking……

Mine does fine either way. I usually open the gfc portion first then open the tailgate tho. Maybe it’s a front too back positioning thing. I’ll take a shot from the side to give you something to compare to
