GFC camper for non-camping uses

Curious if anyone has found and willing to share any good use cases for their GFC camper other than actual camping?

It makes a great mascot changing room for off campus events.

I’ve had to use mine for our mascot at Parades, research fairs, and a few community events when they have not had a separate room for the mascot to change/rest

I use mine for hunting and fishing. While I often camp in it too, like Dogandjeep said, it makes for a great changing room. It’s helpful to be able to stand up while changing and the solid panels make it nice and private. Without over-sharing, I have also used my portable toilet it in when going in the woods was not an option

+1 for changing room

Also good as a day chill spot or nap spot at the beach

During the week it’s my locker for my MTB gear

I pop the sides for airflow in the garage and it keeps the stink down on my helmet and stuff

I use mine for work zoom calls when my wife has a call and needs the home office

I totally forgot about this use case but absolutely. I have often popped it up and used it as a bathroom with my portable toilet when the rest stop bathrooms or vault toilets are not the cleanest.

The best is when I’m out in the middle of nowhere and I can open a side panel to enjoy the view

It’s great for a quick pit stop by the beach for the sunset or a burrito. I’ve definitely eaten more burritos in it then I’ve slept in it lol. Also a good watch tower for my bird dog

Any reason to have a burrito is a solid reason in my book.

Especially when you have a dog by your side. (Although mine would be trying to snake my burrito)

I loaded a ton of lumber 8’’ and 10’ as well as sheets.of plywood on top when I was building my basement. I have three Yakima HD bars and it held it great. Makes plywood purchases easy beats a 5’ bed.

I use my GFC mostly just as a shell and for protecting my dog boxes. The GFC is light enough that it doesn’t hamper pulling my 21’ trailer for extended trips in cold or windy weather. I am trying for versatility so have not gone the dedicated overland build direction, but added a Decked drawer system and built a power distribution panel so that I can run accessories as needed. I can easily pull the dog boxes out and use it for whatever you’d normally use a pickup for. The popup tent is useful for side trips or for times when I want to pull my boat trailer and easily stay overnight, mostly in Spring or Summer. Cheers.

I’ve been using mine as a portable office. I got the Starlink Mini with a 2kw EcoFlow battery, so I just drive out to the middle of nowhere and have a peaceful day of work—video calls and all—out of the sun, enjoying nature, but still getting computer work done.

Would you be willing to share your work setup? How you setup your computer, desk, etc

Thinking of doing something similar. I have a “drawer” set up in the bed of my Tundra. It’s U shaped, so there’s an open center channel that fits my large 150 qt ice chest (fishing and hunting). I can sit on one side but would need a “desk” platform to raise my laptop to a comfortable height. Need to look into this. I can run my starlink off of my jackery 500, with a 100w portable solar panel keeping battery life going all day. probably bring my fridge too for drinks and snacks… and my portable toilet bucket. Here’s a pic of my “drawer” build when I first made it six years ago, pre-GFC. I have a board that fits in the middle but I don’t use it anymore.

I’ve been using it as a mobile office. WFA (work from anywhere)! I got Starlink mini with a 2kw Eco Flow battery, so I could have power for days on end without a recharge.

I need to find a better chair/stool for the standing desk mode though. If anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears.

Oh yeah, my Britt loves seagulls too.

For me, it’s about 90% trail tool locker and 10% camper. Put the bike, tools, and a cooler full of food in it for after work activities.
