GFC MAX DADDY 3G Tacoma Build

This is my 2019 DCSB Tacoma TRD Off-Road with the GFX Max camper. After trying out an Alucab Canopy and ground tenting through the eastern Sierras in California I knew the next step was to go with a pop up style camper. The GFC ticks all the right boxes for me: it’s light, there’s abundant support, it retains the tail gate, sits low to the roof, and looks so sleek.

I will be making some accessories for the GFC to match the elements of the camper that I enjoy the most, they will be available on my website: rovaoffroad.com. These products will accentuate the features of the GFC and blend seamlessly into the simple yet effective aesthetic of the camper.

My first product is the ROVA third brake light, which integrates a Wolfbox G900/G930 rear view camera into the third brake light. It’s a creation I dreamed of making as soon as the GFC Max was announced. A completely no drill, no cutting required, plug and play install for the Woflbox camera. Simply unbolt the original third brake light, then bolt the new ROVA third brake light using the same mounting holes. The new light included with the billet mount has a “glow” look which can be found in premium vehicles today like Audi, Lexus, etc. It’s a softer, more diffused look, but shines very bright when you hit the brakes.

The second product I designed is a billet housing which angles the Baja Designs rock light, turning it into a camp/scene light. The square billet housing of the Baja rock lights with the hexagon shaped light cutout looks really modern and I think it looks right at home mounted flush against the GFC extrusions.

All the accessories I am building can be found on my website: rovaoffroad.com

Looking forward to more adventures with the GFC Max and continuing to build out this rig.

Do you have photos of the install process or links to an install manual? I am curious how the camera mounts to the brake light and how the wires run into the truck and/or get sealed. Also, does the brake lights have the same interface to the truck as the GFC?

Feel free to answer in PMs.

Thanks!

Hey Greg,

The billet mount which houses the brake light and the Wolfbox camera has a recessed area which matches the back of the G900 camera. The camera mounts directly to the mount using the same two screws that would typically be used to mount the Woflbox bracket.

The two mounting holes for the billet mount use the same existing two mounting holes of the original GFC third brake light, and all wires for the new light + Wolfbox camera pass through the existing hole in the middle. The original GFC brake light has some silicone applied to the back of the light, you can also do the same with the new mount. However, I have tested the seal without any silicone and have not had any dust or water intrude the camper.

The camera is mounted at a slight downwards angle since the GFC panel is sloped and otherwise the camera would point upwards. The G900 series camera has a wide angle view, and this angle offers the perfect view of the road behind you.

I’ll be sharing some more detailed photos and providing an install writeup as soon as I finish up production of the first batch!
