Insurance Woes

Hello team! Progressive covered my GFC for the first year, but sent a nonrenewal notice saying the GoFast has an “unacceptable body style.” An hour and 7 phone transfers later, no one seems able to figure out how to offer alternate coverage. Anyone have a pro tip on how to avoid this madness and just get coverage??

Ran across these guys at an overlanding show, I have not used them. Good luck

I ran into issues with Progressive and they refused to insure mine. I called Geico
and they were willing to but the way it was covered as a trailer made the premium un-workable for me. They forced me to have all the coverage that a separate vehicle would have (roadside ect). I ended up giving up and decided to roll the dice until I find a better option.

Thank you so much for this lead, I will check them out!!

Urgh, sorry you got the same run-around. With as big as the market is for overlanding, you’d think they’d figure this out?! Maybe you’ll have luck with Tredder too!

I imagine if you had access to them you’d have em already but USAA hasn’t given me any grief

I have a grandpa who was in the Navy - could that give me access to USAA as a carrier?

I got the same Progressive non-renewal notice. Frustrating.

Iirc it’s a parental thing.

But good news (I think)

If your parent signed up( using grandparent service as qualifier)

Then you could sign up using your parent as the legacy qualifier

I think I recall one of their ads specifically mentioning grandparents but I could be wrong. I made sure to get my daughter coverage through them

Joining the military might be a better option than trying to deal with some of these other insurance companies. :joy: I spent almost an hour on the phone with Geico and then they sent me a quote with a Farmer’s Insurance header. I think they outsourced the coverage to a competitor.

Thank you all for weighing in! Maybe starting our own insurance co-op for GFCs is the next big idea?!

give my boy Jake from State Farm a call. he’s a pretty chill guy and insures whatever is attached to my truck.

I second State Farm! No issues and like 30$ a year something really not noticeable

I think your grandpa needed to be a member (and with that generation, to qualify he had to be an officer), but it is worth looking into it. I have nothing but the best to say about USAA.

Jake for the win!! Thank you! Does State Farm just consider it an accessory/custom part? I have a custom built drawer system (plus all the gear it holds) in the bed and platform build in the rear seat that would be cool if I could include all of that too!

USAA isn’t the company it used to be. Far more expensive and less coverage than years ago.

I have my GFC insured in the SF Bay Area with Farmers. They added coverage for the value of the topper as an insured accessory/modification for the vehicle.
