Joolca water heater

Forgive me, I know I’m asking like everyone in this thread the same question…Do you use your joolca while its mounted to the molle panel, or do you take it out and put it on the ground? I have mine mounted here but I don’t operate it mounted because I fear that I’ll damage the ceiling of the GFC.

I have mine mounted to my Molle panel as pictured above and use it often while attached. I haven’t noticed any heat venting on any surrounding surfaces.

I run mine mounted. No issue

Thanks! I’ll leave mine mounted, along with the propane tank next to it. I just got my Joolca mounted ensuite in the mail, so having everything right there and easy to setup will be nice.

I’ll say I’m a little disappointed with some of the design choices with the ensuite tent. One of the metal bars sewn into the fabric to provide weight and structural stability tore right through the fabric when I put it away for the first time.

I leave it mounted. It is totally fine.

Your setup idea sounds really cool! I don’t have direct experience with this specific water heater, but I’ve been researching similar off-grid setups. Mounting it on the molle panel above your water jug and propane tank seems super convenient.

I’m curious, have you considered the safety aspect of the propane connection, especially regarding ventilation? I’ve heard it can get tricky in enclosed spaces. Also, how’s your Goal Zero handling multiple devices? Some people have mentioned it struggles under heavy loads.

For anyone who’s used this type of water heater, how’s the heat-up time and propane efficiency? Any pros and cons you’d like to share?

Looking forward to hearing from everyone!

So far no leaks to speak of, but I do turn off the valve on the tank if I am going to be moving around with the truck OR hanging out in the bed (enclosed) for any amount of time. If any leakage were to occur, the propane would fall to the floor and seep out via the tailgate area. We are sleeping well above that, with the flooring between us and the gas potential.

The water heater is great, heats up quickly and propane tanks last more than a full year. I top them off each spring out of habit, never really run dry. I am running the power system from a 135 aH smart LiPO4 battery (custom assembled system) and it’s more power than I need. I love it.

Pros and cons? I mean… it’s on demand hot shower… It’s a winner.

That’s a bummer. Mine is still going strong. Thankfully if anything breaks, the local RV shop mechanic is pretty capable of fixing it. The heater is VERY similar to dozens of other brands online. I suspect the internals are all quite similar, if not identical. The same goes for my Planar heater. When i had an issue, the local overland shop was very easily able to address it for $50 in labor.
