Keeping the Forum Free From Spam!

Morning, All!

With the recent string of spam posts on the forum I just wanted to start a thread pleading with everyone to do their part in flagging posts. I realized we are limited to flagging a limited number of posts within a 24 hour period, so if we all chip in and flag these posts we may be able to keep the forum clear from spam posts.

My two cents, appreciate you all!

Commenting to unbury from the most recent flood

@GFC please look into 2FA or some sort of account requirement that will add any barrier to entry for this level of low effort spamming

I flagged a bunch.

Same here. I’m hoping @GFC will blacklist their IP soon.

This would require @GFC to actually have a community or social manager. I flat out asked in the facebook group if they even monitor the forums anymore and got zero response. Seems like they’re basically a skeleton crew these days which explains why they’re behind on everything.

I’ve reached out to @GFC and they are aware of it now. Should get cleaned up here shortly but may take some time.

@GFC
Sucks that this happened.

It may be useful to make some of us who are invested in the success of the community a “leader” for the platform.

Or look into general moderator best practices.

I got bored and hit my limit flagging and renaming the spam lists, and moving them to the news column to try and get back some use of the forum.

There are easily over 150 spam messages.

Adam mentioned the mass spam that was going on and I didn’t believe it :joy::joy::joy:

what does flagging do?
it would be better if they gave folks delete power that have been here awhile, or at least promote some moderators. or have a moderator?
haven’t checked in for awhile and this is nuts!

Good points about the lack of GFC official participation these days and would love to see some moderator roles considered if that’s going to be the case long term. Seems like the spam numbers had dwindled to a mere ~150 before shooting up another 100 or so in the last hour. Quite disappointing to say the least!

Wuddup folks! I am in the process of getting this taken care of! Could take a couple of days, but we may end up going back to the days where you had to be approved given the spam… Also there will be some more participation coming soon

Thanks for the work on this, curious what you mean by

I do find it interesting that the forum pointed out you haven’t posted in 7 months, which seems to confirm what’s being said about a lack of responsiveness, involvement, or general forum moderation by GFC in an official capacity.

While we have you and your snazzy gfc prefix,

Can you get a 2025 pudding going?

The forum did out me just a bit there… honestly I haven’t been around as I haven’t been employed by GFC since July of '23. I worked in our CX department from Nov '21 - July '23, left, did marketing for a merino wool company here in MT, now I’m back and I intend on reviving the forum to be a great way to connect with our customers and continue the stoke to be a GFC owner
