I mount it in the bed of my RAM pickup. For this test it was in my driveway for two nights when the temperature was in the low 20s. One of the nights it got down to 18°.
Important: I only use the heater when I need to…very rarely!
I do not leave my Delta2 in the vehicle all the time. I make sure to remove it when is real cold or hot.
Good point about if it was in the bed or in the cab.
Tonight we are supposed to get down to 15°.
I will put a wireless outdoor thermometer in the cab and see how cold it gets. And compare it to my weather station.
I have the same Renogy charger, but a different heated battery. Did you set up a different charging profile for your battery or are you using the built in lithium profile? My understanding was in cold weather, the standad lithium profile will stop charging the battery. However, most heated batteries power the heater with the charge current. No charge current means the heater wont heat up.
Oooo You just made me realize this will be my first winter with this controller. That was something I did not know. I’ve been doing beta testing all week and haven’t been getting a charge overnight with the NOCO smart charger connect. Perhaps that’s the issue. In the past, I combatted this issue by connecting the charger to the truck battery. The trigger runs on a switch so I could turn on the DC charger when the truck wasn’t running. Then the NOCO would charge the truck battery thus tricking the charger to thinking it’s getting constant current…well because it is.
I’m running a test right now with the battery outside. It is currently -2C. Batteries are 6C.
Its my first winter with this setup also. I found the discussion below where they talk about it, and copy the lithium profile to the user profile to remove the low temp shutoff. It sounds like that solves the problem.
The lithium profile also doesnt have the mode where it will top up your starter battery with solar, and id like to add that also.
Right, I did remember this conversation and looked through the profile. So I can confirm. Last night, because I have my NOCO connected to the Lithium it did no maintain a charge. I’m confident this is due to the ‘Smart’ charger.
I should really read through that old thread because I’ve done a great deal of this troubleshooting already. And that other poster did seem to find a solution.
Have you tried that Renogy BT app? I just downloaded it again, but there’s no setting for the temperature cutoff.
The settings are in the DC Home app by Renogy. Not the other app they have. I’ll have to look through it today when I’m near my truck. I recall going into the Dcc30s settings to change battery profiles and seeing the editable user profile
Totally, I got the app and changed my battery settings. But because I have the Charger linked with a network cable I’ll have to hook up the other BT2 I have to program it instead of linking them.
Yes, it does get cold and I am just south of Nashville.
It was 12° yesterday morning before sunrise and stayed below freezing. Today it will be in the 60’s.
But, it only happens for a couple days in a row. That’s why I was cought off guard when the Delta 2 shutdown.
Ah I got into the settings and I see what you mean. There’s nowhere to update temp cutoff. I created a user profile, which hopefully doesnt have any cutoff. Looks like they took down the other app. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to test it until next weekend. It doesnt usually get cold enough in Portland.
Last year we had a week in the single digits. One morning it was below zero.
But most of the time I wear a heavy flannel shirt and jeans.
At this time we don’t normally camp when the weather gets below freezing. Here’s another But… But my wife and I carry additional cold weather gear and even a couple Survival Bivvy Sack just in case we need them.
Next year we are hoping on traveling west of Oklahoma.
At this time we have to stay within 10hrs of home.
Very very rare single digits. Very little snow and ice once in a while. It’s really not that bad. This Florida boy likes it a lot. Off-Roading and camping is great if you have a Jeep or Bronco. Not so much for full size vehicles. That’s why I have a Jeep and a RAM 1500.
Nashville is another story. It is the bridal shower capitol of the world. Honky Tonk wannabe’s everywhere.
I joke that unlike Las Vegas , “What happens in Nashville Doesn’t stay in Nashville, Everyone Hears about it!”
They just finish building the neighborhood next to me. There are a lot from your state of insanity. 3 months ago we had a Tennessee Hwy Patrol move in down the street. He just moved his whole family from San Diego after working with CHP for 14 years. He said the TN Governor shook his hand when he got here. He also said that would not have happen in CA.
