I went to air out my V2 RTT today and also install a Hest mattress and noticed major water intrusion. We had a few days of rain and the truck has been parked outside on a 5-6 degree slopped driveway. I don’t store any bedding anything in the tent when not in use so it’s not budging.
I’m not sure where the failure point is. I’ve never seen it this bad. Occasionally it will be a little damp around the corners and edges. The entire mattress had cups of water soaked into it.
Could it be the seams on the edges or something more severe? I have an email into support but I wanted to check with the community to see if anyone has experience this or might have a solution.
The front was higher than the back in this situation. I’ve also had the back higher than the front and it’s still happened… I shouldn’t have to find level ground for my $4k tent to not leak.
I have an email into them. Thank you for the reply. This is v2 purchased new in May 2022 so I didn’t even know they had a kit to fix this… Why not alert existing customers?
I had this happen once. On close inspection of the lip seals around the extrusion, I had caught a zipper pull in there and it made a channel for water to get in and stay in. It was a pretty visible dent in the seal so if this happened to you it should be easy to spot.
The seals went back to normal shape and now I’ve been good to go. But I also got the water intrusion fixes a while back.
Did you have to purchase the water intrusion kit or did GFC comp it? Not really happy to pay another 70 dollars for something GFC should have included.
Was a long time ago. I kinda remember at the time they did it as a no-cost? service if you could drive to a service center with an appointment. I got my service in Orange County, CA - not sure if that location is still operational.
My camper was installed in Feb of 2023, before water intrusion was a recognized/solved issue. At the time they launched the fixes, you had to register somehow to get the fixes. Support was super persistent and called me no less than 3 times to schedule my appointment (I have a crazy unpredictable schedule). They did a great job with the fixes. If I paid something, it wasn’t much.
Good to know. Thank you. I’m waiting to hear back from GFC on next steps. I’m in the Bay Area and could get the work done in Sacramento if they are willing to do it. My camper is from 2022 so fingers crossed they will provide a fix.
GFC replied this morning and are sending out water intrusion kit free of charge! These guys are on it. Will update this thread when the fix is applied.
for what its worth, i had the same happened to mine but not that much. mine’s bought used in Nov 2023 but the swap was completed in GFC HQ so they transferred the “title” over to me.
Found water intrusion in 2024. GFC sent me the kit free of charge too.
what’s interesting was sometimes I find water intrusion, sometimes I don’t. I dismissed it as user error on my part. This was between I first found the water intrusion and then finally putting the kit on in summer of 2024.
I installed that kit myself as a precaution for my Alaska and Arctic Ocean trip in Aug/ Sept 2024. No leak since I put it on and I did spend a few very rainy nights up north. Not a drip found.
to this day, I still don’t know if I really had water intrusion problem or not as a result lol
I too have gone 3 years without much if any intrusion. Sometimes the tent would be a little damp around the edges and sometimes it wouldn’t be. This last time was like I left it open during the storm. The reason I opened the tent was to replace the stock mattress with a Hest and was surprised at how wet it was. Excited to get the fix on the tent!
