I am wondering if anyone has used a MeeFar cargo bag (or similar) on their GFC? I would like some extra storage for things like a SUP and inflatable kayak. I think the only tricky part is mounting and keeping the total weight on the roof to about 75 lbs or less.
I don’t think it has a hard bottom. It looks like a soft bag with a grip pad on the bottom. It is meant to strap into doors or length-wise racks, so I am not sure the beef bars would be necessary (trying to avoid the additional since the bags are only $90). There’s probably an easy way to mount something on the side channels that I can attach the straps to. I’m considering putting it on the roof of my Gen 3 DCSB but would rather have it on the GFC if it works.
That’s a serious piece of storage equipment. Is your truck bed space totally full? Inflatable SUPs can be rolled up pretty tight and strapped. Lots of air drag with that in top but it looks like a nice unit
So, I installed the cargo bag and it fits FANTASTIC with my setup. The hooks it comes catch on the side rails of the top platform. Seems like they could slip but front straps are on the beef rack bar, so those aren’t coming off.
I fit a 2-person inflatable kayak, paddles, life vests, a 2-person intex tube, and 2 camping chairs. It has a low profile and plenty of space left. The main drawback is the weight. This is causing two dilemmas…
It is difficult to open. I have to lift it and even then the hydraulics barely hold it up. Would it work to be okay to use sliding door stoppers inside the tent to hold open the top?
When I close it, stuffing the sides to get a snug fit becomes VERY difficult. The top is heavy and wants to close. I have to wedge something in then tuck in all the sides.
Next step is to get an approximate weight on top (bars, solar panels, cargo) to see if it’s under 100 lbs.
