Lots of amazing camp options around Silver Lake. Manistee National Forest has a lot of hidden gems! Haven’t seen many other GFC’s around the forest. Thanks for swinging by.
#30 Dovre Campground, Nestucca River Recreation Area, OR
Gotta admit, this wasn’t a fun one lol. Girlfriend got off work in Portland at 3:00, didn’t make it home until 6 and at my place by 6:30. By the time we were on the road, it was 7 and getting dark. Pulled into this BLM campground at 9pm, set up, ate and bedded down. Around midnight a minivan pulls into the site directly next to us and loudly sets up camp, including setting off their car alarm. Had to take a breather for sure… It was a place to sleep and it did the trick
#31 Barview Jetty County Campground, Rockaway Beach, OR
Happy wife [girlfriend] happy life? This was not what I wanted to do, but she had always wanted to stay here and thats what we did. I go dispersed camping so my energetic little dog can roam freely, so having him leashed the entire time was not a lot of fun for either of us. Otherwise, the campground was decent. We got an okay private site, cooked some dawgs, watched movies, walked on the jetty in the morning. She’s happy so I’m happy!
Also… When I bought my GFC in November of 2022, I set a goal. I said I was gonna camp an average of one night a month, 12 nights in 2023. I picked it up in March and here we are, 31 nights in it! To be honest, I don’t think I had camped more than a dozen nights total before I bought this. I knew I wanted to explore more and the GFC has made it possible. Shooting for 50 in 2024!
#9: Somewhere off the Tabeguache Trail
We must have misread the difficulty of this trail but it was extremely difficult for us to get through.
Night 36: Fairbanks AK
I tried to upload AJ image stack and I hit the maximum upload limit lol noted to export lower than full rez from Lightroom.
Night #7 and #8. This was a boating weekend which is why I’m in a field and not the woods😂 this was last month but never posted. Pudding is hard to remember
Night 35? ~ 45?: another work night on the Manistee National Forest (probably only my 4th pudding because I never remember to take a photo or post it ). Perks of working NF land I guess.
How were the temps at night? Almost did this last weekend but went south because my wife didn’t want to be cold!
Temps were probably in the mid 30s to low 40s through he night and high 60s during the day. It wasn’t too bad once you cozied up in bed. Standing around the fire got a little chilly once the sun went down.
