Night 12 Cantwell Alaska. HAPPY SOLSTICE!
you proved some good food for thoughts from a localâs perspective and thatâs what i was aiming for!
canât wait for August when I finally set off!
and happy solstice!
Give me a shout over on IG or Facebook when youâre ready to start heading this way. I have a ton of campsites along the drive north and in alaska I can share if you promise to take care of them (Dogandajeep on IG or Adam Rubin in the Facebook group)
Did you get a chance to get up to meat cove while there? I have t been since 2018 but was one of my favorite camping locations of my trip there.
First night in my GFC âOverlandingâ in Rosemead, CA after my install appointment at Basilâs Garage.
Big trip for the summer, down to the Great Basin. Original plan was to basically follow the NVBDR, but I ended up deviating and making my own route.
Night #12 - Willamette NF near Oakridge, OR
Just a place to lay my head for the night, wanted to get on the road after work. While trying to find a spot a branch from a bush came through my window and whipped me in the eye, couldnât open it for 30-45min. Thought we were gonna have to end the trip before it started.
Night #13 - Lassen NF near Lassen National Park
I honestly couldnât believe this site was open. 10min outside of Lassen NP, right on Butte Creek. Great site. Woke up and went up to the NP and did a early morning hike.
Night #14 - BLM land near Wovoka Wilderness
Looong day of driving, found this nice little site down a high-clearance road on BLM land. Right by the only creek for many miles lol. Right up the road was an abandoned ranchers cabin that was super neat
Night #15 - BLM land near Austin, NV
This is about when I deviated from my plan. Almost didnât overnight here but I am so glad I did. I was about 20yds away from an incredible hot spring. Wild burros wandering around all night (creepy, if youâve never heard them!)
Night #16 - BLM land near Great Basin National Park
Decided to swing east to Great Basin to check it out. Glad I did, its a super cool park. Found this BLM spot just outside the NP boundary
Night #17 - Humboldt NF, Lamoille Canyon
I changed my plans and then immediately got analysis paralysis. Thought about heading east to Utah but didnât think Iâd have enough time to do what I want. My mom found this place online, Lamoille Canyon. It was incredible! Exactly what I was looking for. One very small stretch of campable area down at the base. Right on a beautiful mountain creek.
Night #18 - Sawtooth NF near City of Rocks, Idaho
My mom also discovered this place, she was a huge help on this trip. City of Rocks. Drove through, walked around a bit, then headed up this ridgeline. Was a little frustrating finding a spot, this one was pretty great though. Was able to walk along this rideline and look at the ranges on both sides.
Night #19 - BLM land near Silver City, ID
This was a surprise detour that I am so glad I took. Was heading from City of Rocks towards Owhyee Canyon in OR and had potentially mapped this dirt route over the mountains rather than 2-lane hwy. On a whim, took it, and visited Silver City, ID. A âghost townâ (in the sense that its relatively untouched, but lived in). The town was super neat and then I found this BLM land just below the town on a creekbed with a TON of quartz crystals and other rocks. Spent hours rockhounding with the dog. Meant to move on that day but glad I stayed
Night #20 - Whitman NF near La Grande, OR
Tough day. Woke up early and hit the Owhyees, which was a shitshow on a nice saturday. While running down some of the rough dirt roads my tailpipe section fell off, wrapped around the axle, and pinned against the wheel/spare. Stuck in the middle of the road, had to use my come-along to bend the exhaust, then lift the truck up so I could navigate it out from under the truck. Had multiple broverlanders drive by, without even a second glance or a âyou doing okay??â. Câest la vie, we were back on the road in under an hour. Decided to get the hell out of the Owhyees and head north. Ended up being a nice spot in a little meadow surrounded by ponderosa pines, reminded me of home (Spokane)
And finally home today!
will do! thank you!!
also following you on IG.
yooo neighbor!
im in rosemead too!
GFC Night #10: Westbound I80 Rest Area Ladora, IA.
Sometimes those nights arenât always a pretty place lol. Sleeping with the truckers.
