Nights 3 & 4 outside of Big Timber MT with the family for the 4th (Nigel likes to pose in the truck bed while I take my pudding photos)
congrats man!
Nights 7 & 8: Near Lizard Head Pass outside Telluride, CO.
Helped out a dude on an adventure bike at Bridal Veil falls who lost his brakes on the steps coming down Black Bear Pass! Apparently he just put it in first and was very careful
And no, I definitely did not do Black Bear in this behemoth Just drove up to the falls from Telluride!
For 2024 we have only a handful of nights in the GFC thus far… probably 10-12.
Salida/BV - Monarch Crest Trail
Night 9: Canyonlands NP campground. No camping photo. It was a bit hot for camping, but we survived. The Colorado overlook was a fun little trail and the sunset views were magnificent!
Night 10: Bryce Canyon Sunset Campground. No photos of the setup, but somehow being in a NP campground, after lots of wilderness camping, was more of a pain to setup and tear down than anywhere else due to the lousy misshapen parking spot and inconveniently laid out camp area…
Photo from Poverty Ranch Gulch Rim Overlook, just east of Zion. Fun little trail, pretty easy, as long as you really like pinstripes and aren’t in any hurry to turn around (especially in a full size). Beautiful views all around!! And a few epic campsites, although we did not stay there.
Night 22: Santa Fe National Forest, Valles Caldera, New Mexico.
Night 23: Santa Fe National Forest, Seven Springs, New Mexico.
Nights 11&12: Just east of Zion NP on BLM land. Picked for convenience to the main road and the park, didn’t spend much time at the site. Forgot how magnificent Zion is! And how magnificent the summer crowds are
Having lived next to Zions for many years, I’m amazed at how crowded and inaccessible it has become. I still prefer to visit during the late fall or early spring, while it’s still cold enough to scare away most people. I took a bunch of co-workers down last month and it felt like Disneyland during peak times. And I couldn’t believe how many trails were closed. I’m glad I got to due the full Narrows and Subway many times before they started limiting the number of people allowed in.
