And the reason we stayed in the area: White River Falls
White Rim Trail - MTB Trip - 3 nights in the camper (Lone Mesa dispersed camping, Labyrinth Campground, Airport Campground) ![]()
Ripped down to SoCal from Oregon for spring break and got in the first couple camps of the year.
Night #1 - Joshua Tree NP at Indian Cove. There are some pretty rad spots in this campground. This was site number six.
Threw some footage from this spot on Youtube if anybody is interested:
Episode 102: A Dog, a GFC and Joshua Tree
Originally I was going to camp in Anza Borrego the next night but it was waaaay to hot (at least for us and the dog) so I headed further west and managed to snag a cancellation at South Carlsbad. My wife hadn’t been there before so I thought she might get a kick out of it.
Night #2 - South Carlsbad State Beach Campground
Night 4: Dispersed campsite somewhere near Ely Nevada. Setting up a home base and will satellite out from there. Did we see aliens?
Beautiful! how did you manage in the cold? heater wise?
I’m a bit of a weirdo
when it comes to cold weather camping. I have tried diesel heaters in the past and didn’t like them, the dry heat was too much. I thought about installing a Propex heater in the back and didn’t do that either because I only really camp in the cold for a few months. My solution for when it’s really cold is a 12 volt electric blanket under the sleeping bag and a Mister Buddy to take the edge off before and after sleep. I leave the back panel cracked open when running that and also have a CO monitor so I don’t wake up dead. For me a good sleeping bag and decent clothing are all I need to stay toasty.
Wow thats nice
Thanks. Never knew we had those kind of falls in Eastern Oregon. We have tons of falls in Western Oregon and I’ve seen many of them but, this is more dramatic, maybe because of the canyon and the surrounding landscape.
Night #6 Modoc Campground in Modoc, SC. Spot 30 is surrounded by water. The Hest mattress upgrade is the single best thing you can do to a GFC. I sleep better in the GFC now than anywhere else.
100% agree, the Hest is a game changer!
Sweet spot!
Those same aliens were over Mt Hood this last weekend as well. What is it and their love of mountains?
Nice setup!
Looks like a good first night choice!
Nights 9, 10, 11, and 12, Las Vegas Motor Speedway
I spent four nights over two consecutive weekends attending the SCCA’s Las Vegas Pro Solos I and II. It’s great waking up onsite and sure beats the $200+ hotel rooms in Vegas!
1965 Lotus Elan is the new codrive this year. The other photos are views from the paddocks.
That Elan had me confuzed before I read your caption. Looked like a highly smoothed out 911 speedster or the Strosek version. The back half of the door really had me convinced, if it weren’t for that hinge section…
