Rear Tailgate Extension

I have a 5’ bed and would love to create some sort of slide out behind the tailgate and GFC rear door that could extend the bed (enclosed area) while parked. Has anybody built a box or something that slides out to the end of the tailgate to extend a short bed enclosure?

Lookup some of the older videos of Off-Grid Backcountry Adventures.

He’s lived in a short bed Tacoma for years and had an extension that worked well

Also some others that copied his efforts on YT
Searching with the title of your thread will yield some decent results

Lastly, there are some tent style extensions that people have played around with, I believe (sp)Natalie here on the forums was playing with some cool stuff before she sold her rig

I personally have been kicking around building one out of skinned foamular to keep it lightweight and insulated especially since my truck only has a 4.5 ft bed

Thanks. I’ll look those up. We have the same truck.

I have a bedslide in my tundra. I got mine used off the local classifieds for $150 and it has been totally worth it. Almost full extension, loaded. Makes loading and unloading the truck so much more effective and gives up very litte in terms of vertical hight. Mine is sized to have very little dead space and goes full length of the bed and is wheel well to wheel well…

I’ll look and see if I have pics somewhere…
