Room of tent wet after heavy rain

I just got my RTT and after a heavy rainfall the past couple days the rim of the tent is wet. Is this something that happens to other and how would you address it?

I also have the corner of my tent coming out of its slot. How would you recommend fixing this?

Cheers!

Are you keeping too much bedding inside while it’s closed? It sounds like it’s just not getting a good seal.

No bedding has been inside yet.

There is a keder cord that keeps that corner tucked under the channel. It looks like it just needs to be adjusted. As for the water saturation, they’ve come out with a water intrusion kit which is essentially some tape that they put around those corners. They were offering it free of charge if you brought your tent to one of their locations

Is the keder cord the green cord?

Yes, I believe it’s green. Here’s an old video on it

Hi @Agwinn!

The first thing I’d recommend is purchasing and applying Scotchgard Outdoor Sun and Water Shield Spray: (https://www.scotchgard.com/3M/en_US/p/d/b10205009/). You can find it at stores like ACE, Lowes, etc. This spray is will prevent water from permeating up through the tent fabric from any small water intrusion like you’re experiencing here. Pay special attention to the corners where there is no bulb seal and capillary action is most likely to pull water into the tent.

The second thing I’d recommend is to upgrade your tent’s keder rods. The keder rods are like tent poles. They hold your tent into the extruded aluminum frame by expanding a sewn loop of fabric into a constricted channel. Some of the older rods were prone to shrinking depending on use and weather conditions, so we created a new fiberglass rod that should last much longer Here is a video explaining the process for removing old keder rods and installing new keder rods. Here is a video explaining how to lock the new rods into place for a more ‘permanent’ installation.

If you are the original owner and the tent is younger than 2 years old, then we can send you those rods under warranty. Otherwise, the new rods and ‘locking kit’ cost less than $70 , including shipping. Please reach out to support@gfcengineering.com if you’d like to learn more about shipping and installing those new rods.

Robbie - You’re a rockstar. Thank you for the detailed response and will be reaching out after the work day to order some new keder rods/locking kit.

Is it normal to experience ‘dripping’ from the front corner of the frame of the tent after it hasn’t rained for a few days too? I apologize for the questions, but just hoping cover all my bases so I have this beautiful piece of equipment for a long time! Cheers!

Hi @Agwinn !

It looks like you have some water trapped in your extruded aluminum frame. We have vented socket head screws that allow water to more easily escape than from the gaps around the billet aluminum corners. We can send you 4 screws (1 per lower corner). If you are the original owner and your camper is younger than 2 years old then I can send them to you for free. Otherwise, it’s $25 plus shipping.
