darn its OOS currently.
I totally see the use case for cold weather camping and condensation. I could use it there…
What are your thoughts for warm camping. If you opened the triangle windows does this have a strong enough pull to create a nice cross breeze?
Yea I might just go with that off the bat if I can get dimensions to make sure it will clear like the other one you posted.
Yep, you can feel the air moving. It’s not a breeze but it gets rid of the “dead air” feel.
I was going to get that fan as well. But $368 was nuts for what is essentially less than $100 marine fan.
yea I agree maybe the one you got will come back in stock soon
Nice, ya that is kind of what I was thinking. Just pictures camping last summer in Moab in the heat haha.
Echoing what @m0to said. Best for cold weather camping but does move the air around when warm. I do fan out in cold fan in warm air
Well. A follow up on the vent. We’ve been camping out in the Sierras for the last week and the vent has died. Either it’s the battery or the motor. I’lll take apart when we get home and figure out which.
So, good news this thing is super simple and easy to upgrade!
I opened it up and it’s essentially two AA rechargeable batteries.
I’ve ordered these guys: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CR0R8KQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I’m going to drop them in and a friend who’s a pro at this is going to help me add a USB Charge input so I can power it externally as well.
Despite the dead batteries would you recommend this exhaust fan?
Other than the battery issue. It’s been a great fan. No water intrusion. Replacing the batteries with better ones was super easy.
@m0to Any idea how long the fan battery typically lasts with the larger battery you installed?
Best if it easily makes it through the night.
It definitely lasts through the night now.
Figured I would add my two cents here, given I did it a bit differently.
I went with the James Baroud fan, that is now $160. Not sure I would sway someone toward this, but I figure a real name might actually back their products should something go wrong. Overall it looks exactly the same as the fans everyone has posted here.
The piece of the fan that sticks into tent is roughly 4 5/8" in diameter. I ended up using a bimetal 5" hole saw running in reverse, which worked perfectly. Cleaned the top with alcohol , used painters tape as a guide to center the fan, and stuck it on. Decided to go with just VHB tape rather than using screws given my historical success with VHB. Maybe I will regret it? I figure I would rather go without screws in order to minimize intrusion.
One nice thing about using a 5" hole is that you can use a 5" cable grommet trim piece to give it a nice, finished look. I bought this one: Hardware Resources 67000WH 5 Inch Diameter Cable Grommet - Single | Ferguson Home and it fits like a glove.
One last thing I did differently was mount it off-center so that I could use it with a single small panel out and the tent down. This mattered more when I originally mounted a large fan in my last camper, but I figured I might as well give myself the ability to use it with the tent up or down.
Edit: Pictures added
Pictures of yours would help…..
Heard. Edited above with pictures.
very nice this is slick
That looks awesome. I may have to follow suit after I see how things go camping this summer.
I’ve got the tools do it! (And an extra fan I couldn’t return) haha
