I recently had my GFC V2 Max installed. As per the installation instructions, I removed all of my bed rail mounted accessories. I have a high clearance rear bumper and 35 inch tires, so my spare was mounted along the side of the bed using a DV8 Standup Mount.
I’m new to this forum, but I haven’t seen anyone discussing using that kind of spare tire mount with their GFC. Mostly I’m seeing smaller tires in the stock position or rear bumper mounts.
Has anyone attempted using a standup bed mount for their spare tire? I’m nervous to unbolt the GFC brackets that I just paid to have installed and tightened to spec.
I’ve had bed mounted spare tire carriers on both my trucks with GFCs (Tacoma with a V2 on 35s, and now a ‘25 Tundra on 37s with the new V2 Max). No issues. And you don’t need to unbolt the GFC to get the spare tire mount in… I have had both mine on the head rail behind the rear cab window, but you could do the side too as long as clears the wheel well.
But, if you do ever need to unbolt the GFC… don’t be scared. It’s easy, and just re-torque it once you’re done doing whatever you’re doing. I’ve uninstalled and re-installed the V2 before no problem. Also had to loosen and shift my new Max because the installing shop on the east coast didn’t do it quite right… easy to do.

thank you @Tedward for sharing your experience! super helpful. if you like your head rail mount, can you share what product you are using?
Yeah, in my current Tundra I went with one from Bash Fabrication (owner/fabricator is Chad, nice dude). Previously in my Tacoma I had one from Spirit of 1876. Both good versions, no issues with either
