Swapping V2 from Tacoma 3rd gen to 2nd gen

Hey everyone
I’m looking to buy a used V2 from a 3rd gen Tacoma for my 2nd gen Tacoma. I understand I’ll need to get a new rear panel for a proper fit but can I install, drive away and still lock and secure ( and order new panel after)?
Time is of the essence!

The rear panel on the V2 for a 3rd Gen Tacoma is shorter than the panel for a 2nd Gen so it should work but the fastest way to confirm would be to call GFC.
