Tailgate Delete? Tacoma

Getting old here, and crawling into the back has been bothering me. I have no knowledge of metal fabrication, but I am wondering if anyone has made or priced out getting a rear hatch made that deletes the rear tailgate and take up the entire rear opening like ARE does on their fiberglass topper, I think they call it a walk in door.

I use a small step ladder to get in the back of the truck, fold it and throw it in the back when I leave. For me the tailgate is very useful deploying my tent, cooking, etc.
To answer your question, I have only seen them as part of a camper system such as Alucab, ARE . . .
Good luck

The drop down tail gate step for the Tacoma works for me, and it was a really easy install. It’s currently $79.99 with a 5% coupon on Amazon. I’m not young anymore and without the step it is a challenge (particularly after going with an Icon stage 3 leaf swap). I also appreciate having the tail gate both as a platform for deploying the tent and as a work surface in camp. That said I haven’t seen that mod with a GFC.

@RunRideDrive i might recommend the lower.

I find these are very light weight, one can use it as a stool around a fire or in the side of your truck for access, plus at Harbor Frieght and many other spots they are not that expensive…
Check out the aluminum ones.

Also worth depending on your height… they make them with adjustable legs…
6 foot 6 here… but i can understand…

Enjoy the rig and camper either way.
