Tent Repairs - Torn while installing struts

I was replacing my gas tent struts and had removed the locks on the top and the bottom to pop them out of the sockets. I was pushing towards the rear at the top of the strut and hit it with my hand to pop it out first. To my surprise, the bottom one came out first and and tore the fabric. I’m entirely sick about it.

What’s the best way to go about repairing this so it doesn’t continue to tear, yet along let water in? Should I take it to a repair type place, but who does this kind of work? Would the GFC iron on patch kit be enough to hold things together?

Input is greatly appreciated.

I would use something like this. I used a gear aid patch on both sides of a small tear in my tent.

Second the gear aid. That’s the first thing that came to mind. I always have a roll with me.

If you patch using gear repair which is a great product or the gortex patches. recommend adding seam grip tent seam sealer around the edges to add durability and keep the seams of the patch from wearing or delaminating. It does not look super clean but for patches I have done on tents, jackets, backpacks etc it makes them last.

Also, if using tenacious tape, i have had best success if you put tape on both sides of the tear. Especially in such a high tension application.
