Truma Heater Install for GFC?

I was wondering if anyone has done a Truma heater install on an GFC. I know they are currently very popular in the RV world, and I see Super Pacific and other truck camper brands are starting to provide them as options. I know most people have recommended a diesel heater, but I worry about the quality control of the chinese knock offs and in general diesel combustion inside the camper.

I am looking to add a heater into my GFC to make winter camping during this ski season more comfortable. I have heard the Truma is pretty reliable at high altitude. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Lots of people really love the diesel heaters, and they work awesome, but they were not for me. I hate the smell, and even a drop spilled will stink out the camper for the whole night. For me propane is way nicer to deal with, and I use it for my cooking stove and my Howl Campfire so just one tank covers all my needs. The Truma’s looks great for sure, and I have been very happy with my Propex HS2211.

Very interested in more info on the Propex. Do you have it mounted internally or external? What’s the fuel consumption?

Just found this Propex suitcase propane heater. Looks interesting.

I have it externally mounted and using it at night a 20lb tank will last over 30 days. This is a very rough guess based on how much I used over a 3 night trip at 20-30 degrees.

That is a clean setup!

@jedgar are you able to share photos on how you have the heater externally mounted?

@pkwhitey I sold the RAM I had it mounted on, just under the bed of the truck, and haven’t gotten around the installing it on the Gladiator yet. Right now it is on the front of my trailer. I ran the electrical through the intake hose to eliminate a hole also. I have separate hoses and wiring so I can swap it between setups.

Hey Josh,

I love this! I never knew you bailed out of the Diesel heater world. If you think the diesel smell sucks, try the stress of having a petrol air heater. Nothing like the smell of raw gas followed by detonation in your heater!

Autoterm Petrol heater works but is terrifying. The next time I need to drop 1800 on a heater, I’ll be going this way. If you like it and it works, I know it will work for me too.

Yeah, I want to get one of these. First time we took the diesel heater out, of course it tipped over in the truck bed and got diesel on the carpet and one of our bags. I thought it was secured, but the road was pretty bumpy. For now we’re doing the electric blanket. haha
