I have a 2016 Tacoma DCSB with a brand new (~3 week old) V2 PRO. Loving it so far, but today is the first day since installation that the truck has been out in heavy rain and there is water ingress near each corner it appears as well as towards the bulkhead (final photo).
Before installation, I followed this guide to seal the bed caps and corners.
The installation itself was done at a certified retailer in the southeast.
Is this type of issue common (i.e. should I expect it) and does anyone have recommendations for fixes? I have more sealing products on hand but advice would be much appreciated!
From your photo it looks like you have water seeping in under the bulb seal? The good news is as the bulb seal settles it should get more water tight. Make sure to re tighten the camper if you haven’t done so since installing.
I have had my camper removed to do some warranty work and I got some seepage again for the first while. It has since stopped hence my theory on the seal itself.
I did all of the bed sealing stuff before the original install. After instal it took quite some time to stop all of the leaking in the corners as you have. I just kept plugging areas with butyl tape.
I am in BC Canada on the Wet Coast so my camper is subject to lots of rain.
I still get the odd seepage on the front drivers corner. I have no idea where it’s getting in. It only happens when I drive in the rain and not when stationary. I just mop it up with a “shamwow” cloth.
Goo luck working on it. You can try sitting inside in the dark and have someone shine a light around the outside and fill all the gaps you see.
New tacomas and tundras are notorious for leaky beds. the good news is your camper isn’t the issue. The bad news is unless you properly seal the bedrail caps and the holes in the bed itsel you’ll still get water coming through.
I have the same issue with my taco bed. I’ve basically given up. I do have a rubber bed mat and when it does leak most of the water stays under the mat so it’s not as noticeable
Although I have a Colorado, I was having a similar issue. On GFCs recommendation, I got some Sikaflex 221 from Amazon and sealed the hell out of everything. I still have a tiny, tiny leak in heavy rain but the vast majority of the leaking has stopped
Whats odd is that it appears to be wet above and below, but not sure how the water is working around. I was driving some too, so there’s plenty of variables.
Good call - I will double check the bed mounts.
Three for three! I was going to use actual water from a hose but a light sounds so much easier lol
Yeah maybe that’s it? I applied one layer of thick tape and some silicone, so I don’t want to lift those caps back up if I can help it… Thanks for the input!
I’m gonna start with the tape, but will reserve this for a last resort. I don’t mind overdoing it on the sealant a bit since I will be in the camper a lot
I had water coming in from the cab side corners, wicking along the bulb seal (not coming in through the bulb seal), and dripping down the tailgate side corners. It looked very similar to what you have happening. I would focus on those cab side corners first and see if that doesn’t solve the rest of your issues.
When we sealed toyota beds for Alucab and RSI caps we would remove the bedrail caps and lay down foil tape and then do a bead of sikaflex along it to help seal. then we went through the bed and did a bead of sikaflex on every corner and weld and all of the tiny holes toyota loves to put in the beds for some reason. it doesnt get 100% waterproof because of the tailgate but it does cut 90+% of the water from up front.
took us about 2 1/2 hours to do a vehicle before putting the canopy on but made a world of difference
