Due to the GFC factory flap seal on the camper tailgate panel and the odd 1inch lip of the 4th Gen Tacoma, its impossible to close the camper and tailgate in the correct sequence. Due to the contact of the seal flap and the tailgate lip overlap, I seemingly have to close my tailgate last. Ergo, I can’t secure from within.
Any ideas? Simply remove factory seal flap?
Thanks.
I went through this with my Tacoma and have the same issue. If you remove the factory weather stripping, close the rear panel, and your tailgate you will see the rear panel is actually not a flat surface. It has a slight convex shape with the center “bulging out.” This is the part that hits the tailgate with the weather stripping attached and makes it impossible to close the tailgate with the rear panel already down. I cut out the center of my factory weather stripping and added my own thinner weather stripping (combined with some water proof caulking). It’s not pretty or perfect but the tailgate rear panel combination works better now.
Thanks. I was planning to do the same. Just wanted to double check others solution before.
Did you use any particular weather stripping style? Double or single beaded strand?
