I’d suggest submitting a ticket to GFC
Never had this and it seems abnormal - don’t think I’ve ever seen it on the forum either. Hopefully Support can get you sorted.
Yeah support is currently looking into it. Since there is some gasket contact at the front and the rear the likely culprit (IMO) would be a warped/arched extrusion. Unfortunately I live 14 hours from GFC and I’m not looking forward to taking off that time from work if any major rework is required. Luckily this weeks precipitation was changed from rain to 6in of snow
Maybe the weight of the snow will bend it back into spec
I wonder if it’s a strut issue. Not fully compressing, causing the roof to bow when in the closed position…?
This is actually something I hadn’t considered and a good thought. The tent does seem to be fairly difficult to close but I have very little reference since the first time I laid hands on a GFC was the floor model during my install. I do remember mine being more difficult to close than the floor model though. I thought maybe it would “break in” a bit after some use. One strut having an issue might explain the alignment issue on the latches as well.
For sure something to look into. I do notice my Pro may close misaligned here or there based on how the truck was sitting or how I pulled the tent closed, I just give it a tug to align before slamming the latches closed and it’s been fine and hasn’t affected sealing.
It may be worth removing the strut on the side that appears to have more of a gap, and test. If nothing changes, toss it back in and remove the other side. Just know that extra support and caution will be needed with a strut removed! Ideal scenerio would be for GFC to send you two new struts. It may also be a possibility that the strut mounting locations were improperly located? But I’m sure these fastener pilot holes are controlled by a cnc program, keeping their placement consistent from one part to the next, within a controlled tolerance window.
Considering the profile of the extrusion and its orientation, it would be a very very small probability that it would warp in the manner that you’re seeing.
Good luck! Let us know what you find out.
Yeah I’ll probably check this out this weekend when I have time, who knows when I might hear back from GFC. I actually got a message from someone else that had what appeared to be the same issue on their V2 pro and the root cause ended up being an extrusion that was warped (I think the theory was that it was warped from the supplier). They ended up having to go back to GFC and had their camper rebuilt so I’m really hoping that isn’t the case for mine since it’s a long drive. Sounds like GFC came through and remedied it but another 28 hours of driving isn’t high on my summer plans
well I hope it’s something much more simple than that potential cause - for your sake!
As y’all might have heard, we got quite a bit of rain here in SoCal last night. Went out to check on my truck this AM and found pools of water in the front corners of the bed. Last time it rained, I found pools there but it was obvious that the water was getting in through the front corners of the GFC. I filled those with RTV and this time there is ZERO evidence as to how the water got in. My truck has enough dust in it from camping in the high desert a couple of weeks ago that it should be obvious, but there isn’t. Anyone have any ideas? 2020 Chevy Colorado fwiw. I don’t know if their stake holes can leak into the bed, but I don’t think so…
maybe from the top. submit a ticket and see if they’ll send you the butyl tape
Rained again today so I checked as soon as I got home:
Looks like it’s coming from the front corners or maybe the seal? I submitted a ticket to GFC, hopefully I’ll hear back soon. In the meantime, I’ll just leave towels in the front corners and swap them out as long as it’s raining…
hmm that might be the seal between the camper and the bed.
That looks like a Colorodo or Canyon bed. And yes, it’s coming from the corners there. The front is lower than sides. I had to put another strip of foam in there like you use for bed shells. Then I added some sealant. I still get a little bit of a leak. Before I did that I had the same problem.
Edit: I just saw your post that you do have a Colorado. I’m free Sunday if you want to see what I did to mine to seal it up more. I probably need to do some more since I have a little water coming in with all this rain.
Yeah, it’s a 2020 Z71. I’m going to be camping Saturday night out by Warners so maybe I’ll swing by on my way home. I’ll text you when I’m leaving to see if you’re around
