UPDATE! As of October, 2023, all new orders of the Platform Camper, Platform RTT, and all those currently in production now ship with our new Turbo-Nap Sleep System mattress included. We spent more than a year developing the Turbo-Nap mattress and we think it’s hands-down the most comfortable mattress on the truck camper market.

Cut down a 2” foam bed topper for my v2, holy cow, game changer. It is a little too thin on padding for me, I like the firmness but it needed a little more love. Now I have a comfy bed with sections still in place to move around as needed, I was going to put my expedition duomat up there but this worked a charm.
All I did was measure and cut the foam to size each panel and used the flannel covers to hold them in.
The top shuts fine, it just takes a second or 2 longer to let the air out the foam as it compresses.
Awesome that you’ve improved the comfort for yourself.
I’ve read some previous posts about adding a mattress topper and they had a little trick you might want to consider (although from your description sounds like you’re good, or maybe you’ve done this already):
For the square panels they cut the mattress topper down an extra bit from the edges. Then you can put the panels in upside down to get more space for bedding up top (or just to make it close easier). So basically you’d trim the edge so that the topper will fit down inside the “downstairs space”.
This is the one I got-
I didn’t see that tip, it actually works fine when used with the flannel sheets. My method was to cut the middle rectangle then cut the 2 smaller ones to match since they are the same as the middle rectangle. The leftover I cut the big section and then used the remaining to fill the farthest forward under the sheets.
Totally works a charm and all I can say is wow, now it’s a dream to sleep on
It’s a snug fit with the topper in there, but with patience it all squishes away and allows the tent to tuck in cleanly.
I keep my gzilla rods up there, and I have a Vrnclr storage pocket mounted to the roof, that holds the pole keepers, but that is it. Under the bed I have the vnclr bedding shelf to hold my pillows and blanket/ sleeping bag.
No I just got my v2 a couple weeks ago and it’s roasting here is so cal.
I can report back in winter, but I dont camp in those conditions usually. It’s not that cold where I go, the activities I chose to do are in milder weather conditions
I was thinking about replacing the cushions with something like this. how do you think it would work? is the foam soft enough that you would bottom out?
I get my V2 hopefully in a few weeks, as long as my buddy is still able to get across the Canadian Border. Maybe this has been asked before, but has anyone or is it possible to just remove the stock mattress and just have the firm base? Currently in the topper setup, a thermarest on the plywood is good enough for me. Sure would be nice to be able to have that, my sleeping bag, and thermarest pillow just setup up there.
Cheers….anxiously awaiting, but bummed that I have to install my camper myself.
Yeah you can easily remove the padding as @blackhearse said. However, if you’re fine on a thermarest you might find the stock mattress comfortable. I like it better than the mattress in my bedroom even.
@Medicfung any chance you can add a fresh link to the foam bed topper you bought? The current one posted isn’t there anymore. Or let me know the brand?
