AMA or Ask Us Anything About HEST Mattresses for GFCs

Awesome thanks for the info! Did you get a specific type of carpet or just anything with a short ‘pile’ thickness?

I suspect he used the same carpet I did for my deck and seat delete platform. I got a roll of outdoor carpet at Home Depot and the bed platform has held up great.

Sweet! Fun options for sure!

I will add, be careful if you use this specific one:

I’m not sure if it was the carpet or the adhesive spray but I had major adhesion issues with this is my bed space.
It’s not fighting gravity so it isn’t too big an issue, but it for sure would not stick to a ceiling

So did you eventually get it to stick to the camper ceiling?

I got a roll cut of the thin outdoor carpet that was mold and mildew “resistant”

I did mine when it was warmer out. Used almost 2 cans of the super 3m 90 spray. The key is moving slow, spraying a lot and having help. After sticking it to the roof, I closed the camper for 12+ hours to really let it seal and attach to the roof.

Actual headliner spray might be even stronger than the Super 90 3M spray. You want to make sure whatever you use it has a high heat tolerance

Ah good idea!

What was the consensus ?

I’m still hoping to hear from someone who has the Hest mattress and the headliner

We have the platform 50. Switched from two Hest foamy’s. GFC 2” mattress when we purchased.

Also have the new pro tent, headliner and a Vrnclr top shelf (storage pockets velcroed to the headliner.

Had to switch the gasket to this: Weather Stripping Seal Strip for Doors/Windows, Self-Adhesive Backing Seals Large Gap, Easy Cut to Size 1 (White, 18FEET) - Amazon.com

(Thanks to @Cojo for that link)

And we also flip the two small square panels at the back to give the tent more room when closing.

There is some bowing of the side extrusions and roof panel - and more difficult to close.

However, full relatively rainy summer and no leaking or other issues.

And the comfort is definitely worth it!

Cheers

Good to know, I may have to pull the trigger

I got the Hest Platform 50 on their Black Friday sale. Now it seems there’s a slight gap in the middle of each side. I can actually see the strut mount through the gap. I’m going to replace the bulb seal, but I wonder if I couldn’t also put a seal on the lower extrusion too. Thoughts?

The seal I used fixed that gap. I don’t think you would want a seal on the bottom. If water got in there then that seal would hold it in instead of letting is drain out.

Seems to recall someone else in the forum experimenting with a bottom seal and it trapped water.

Cheers

Having a seal on the lower extrusion will cause water to pool and wick through the fabric if it rains while the tent is open. A larger seal on the top would be the best bet to closing the gap and not creating new problems.

Solid point thanks! Just ordered the seal (except in black)

That’s interesting. I don’t have a gap on mine.

I did not have a gap with the GFC mattress + OSG memory foam and the V2 tent. With the Hest and Pro tent, there is a small gap which the slightly thicker seal should address.

would pay good money for a HEST mattress custom fit for GFC floor panels so I can still use transform a floor

It’s around $750 on the Hest website.
