Are your RacksBrax mounted to the vertical center holes on the GFC Universal Mounts? If so, did you have to modify or expand the holes on your RackBrax? I received my Universal Mounts and RacksBrax recently and it looks like the holes on the RacksBrax don’t quite line up with any of the vertical center holes perfectly without a little modification. I didn’t break open the RacksBrax bag of bolts yet in case I have to return them.

Yes, mounted to the vertical center holes. I did not have to modify anything and I used the Racksbrax hardware to mount it to the GFC mounts.

I purchased the Racksbrax in 2021 so depending on when you purchased yours, they may have revised their mounts since then

Thanks for the information. I’ll make it work.

Has anyone done a summary or spreadsheet with all this info? I’m too lazy to read all the posts.

What’s the consensus for the best awning, mounting compatibility, setup, etc?

I don’t think there is a consensus. It really depends on your needs and your budget. I’d love to have one of those 270° awnings that don’t have legs but I can’t afford one. For me, my ARB 2000 is my best awning although I’m not sure I’ll mount it up again. I may just use a tarp secured to my lumberingbear hooks.

Maybe you should read the posts and summarize them in a spreadsheet? :sunglasses:

I love my Kammok Crosswing. Deploys in less than 5 seconds so I use it much much more than my old awning with legs. It’s pricey but if you’ll use it more it’s worth it IMO.

I have Neso beach canopy that I keep in the truck all the time. It’s been very versatile for sun protection both on an off the truck. Seems to be unlimited deployment options. I even rig it at the end of my dock. It withstands upwards of 30mph wind gusts on the beach. Here’s a Pic of it on the beach. I secure it to the truck with lumbering bear loops and carabiners included with the tent kit. Anchoring options are included screw stakes or the optional sandbags. It’s made out of a stretchy spandex.

Another Kammok here. Mounted using the standard awning mounts, x3. Liking the quick setup so far, very easy to use.

Any extra noise with this installed?

I’m looking at the ROAM ARC 270 awning. I’m wondering if anyone has thoughts about if the 2 mounting L-brackets could be mounted to the RTT. Based on the shape, it looks like it would only support a top mount, and not a side mount.

I got the attached detailed picture of the bracket from their support.

I would assume the GFC universal bracket would be a direct replacement for that one.

No difference in noise as far as I can tell. At least not at the 100km/h max speeds I tend to stay at.

Hey @johnknwd I’ve been debating a $1k+ spend on a 270 awning vs. using my $100 Neso tent for the job. Thanks for the inspiration.

Can you send a link to the Lumbering Bear loops you’re using, and do they work well for you?

I have a bunch of them, can’t beat ‘em. Simple twist into place and the stay secure. I have a cheap/custom awning I use them for.

I have been mulling over a stand alone structure in leu of the 270 I currently have. Anyone have thoughts on this? I have a Ford Maverick, I am 6’0 and have the Rhino rack Batwing 270.

Any awning I attach is going to be a clearance issue. the batwing requires a tiny bit of faf to whip out and stow away and I’d like to keep the pack up time to a minimum to get to the trail/crag. Lastly, I’d like to have the option of keeping my spot in high demand first come first serve areas when driving to the day’s adventure is a must.

I’ve been thinking of a fast deploying tent or 10x10, to use as a gear garage, rainy day cook house, hot day breeze way and a guest bedroom. want something that will do it all, but i’m looking at tradeoffs between openness to the breeze, privacy and quick set up.

We were in the same situation and just used a regular REI 6 person tent. We eventually moved onto a FSR Hub Tent. It’s perfect and would check off all your needs, but I think it’s too long to fit in a 4.5’ Maverick bed.

Not sure if any other manufacturers make a smaller one, but just an idea.

GoFSR Hub Tent that we use: Hub 4XL Tent

Edit: Maybe something like a Coleman Skylodge?

Did you have any issues with the install

Is it possible to have a side mounted awning (in my case the kammok crosswing) to a V1? The hydraulic arms being on the outside seem to be an issue.

I have an 8’ ARB awning on my V1. No issues. You just put the brackets somewhere other than where the struts are.
