I researched the best diesel heater for camping to find the perfect option for cold weather trips, van life and outdoor use. After reading expert reviews from trusted sources like the New York Times, Outdoor Gear Lab and The Drive, two models consistently stand out as top recommendations:
However, I am having trouble deciding which one would better suit my needs. I care about heating performance, fuel efficiency, noise level and ease of setup. Portability and safety features would also be a bonus too.
Has anyone tried either of these? Which one would you recommend – the powerful and easy-to-use VEVOR 8KW All-in-One or the portable and reliable Hcalory 8KW? Any advice or personal experiences would be really appreciated.
I have the HCalory TB. Got it on the recommendations of a couple different friends. Sooo easy to set up. Set it outside the truck, run the air hose to the truck intake port I made, and press “On” on the FOB. That’s it. 3-5 minutes. Hot air in about 3 minutes. Best feature I like, the thermostat FOB. Set it for your desired temp in the camper and forget it. Self adjusts to maintain the temp. I have a V2 MAX. Here is my thread that you can see the intake I put in for the hose. The heater comes with the louvered intake vent I pop in the hole to attach the hose. 2024 Toyota Tundra V2 MAX Build #7889
@GainzGFC Thanks, I went with Hcalory based on your recommendation and purchased it. After using it, the experience has been outstanding so far, especially in performance and ease of use. I am really happy with the choice. If anyone is in a similar situation like me, I’d recommend Hcalory as well.
@GainzGFC and others - I know there’s opinions on size KW that’s right for the GFC size. Any opinions on your end of what you think the right size is to heat the rig? I’m thinking of plumbing my heater port into the bottom and then allowing for passive air movement into the upper level, but figured I’d get your thoughts. Thanks!
I’d do 5kw especially if you’re doing passive heat. You can always open vents and windows if it’s too hot. You can’t make more heat with 2kw if you need more heat.
That’s good to know. I was a little concerned about short cycling it and building up a bunch of soot in it. I’m heating an XL 8’ bed, so maybe it won’t do that as much as I thought. Thanks for the insight!
