Note to self… buy stock in hose clamp company

I appreciate you! And no worries. Common goals here. Stay warm while we are out enjoying nature!

Has anyone noticed an odor from their diesel heater? I am using an aluminum lined hose and notice a “hot plastic” smell. Would like to find a better solution.

This.
I just got some Propex brand and it has zero odor. Name brand is worth it.

What everyone else said… plus run it on high for a few hours seems to solve most of the offgassing from the cheap stuff

Tapping into the main fuel supply and no diesel tank sure makes the petrol version interesting.

Great idea! I did just that and realized the odor is coming from the heater itself, nothing to do with the hose. It ran out of fuel during the “burn off” so I didn’t get to check if it made a difference. Maybe the problem is my cheap diesel heater

Appreciate the info, that’s why I posted for help. What brand heater are you using?

I have a Vevor heater. and have been using the inside foil lined vent hose with the PVC outter. I ran the heater for 2 hours on low and medium in the garage and it smelled really bad. The next day I ran it again for 3 hours on high, and then the next day I ran it on high for around 3 hours. In the last 3 hour session I didn’t notice a smell. After work today I will fire it up again and let you know if the smell is still there.

Thanks @ckralovetz I have the Vevor as well. I plan on running it on high again once I get more fuel. Will report back.

I had a Vevor all in one unit. Crank it way up! My first 3-5 hrs it smelt horrible. Been using it weekly since November on most ski Sundays and zero smell now.

I like others did get a genuine webasto exhaust though.

I am seeing 2 types of ducting APK and Caraflex. Any insight on which of these would work better for a portable heater setup?

Have you had any problems with yours catching on fire like the one in their marketing photos?

What pump did you end up getting? Link? Tick tick tick tick…

Lol I did get mine to shoot flames out of the exhaust - user error and overfueled it lol

Been running on high for a few hours, still getting the odor. I will say the odor has nothing to do with the hose. It smells the same coming directly out of the heater without the hose attached. I will keep it running for a while more and see if it improves.

Is your heater mounted permanently in your bed or in a portable setup?

All in one portable unit, looks like this:

Might try to clean the aluminum fins and inner casing with some brake cleaner ( when it is off and not connected to electric and let it dry well). I have one like that from vevor that took forever to burn off the strange odors

I put together a video sharing some tips and my experience building the diesel heater! @keeganbuilds thanks for the inspiration!
