After 3 years of different configurations, I’ve learned I like the bed of my truck as free as possible for hauling, lounging, and sleeping when i don’t want to pop the tent. Here’s how I do it:
- Use aftermarket molle panels for heavy things: builtright industries and underland offroad
- DIY ceiling-mounted table tray made of 3/8" plywood w/ webbing molle sheet underneath
- DIY trim channel mounting bracket on top and bottom camper tubes w/ rivnuts
- DIY gear panels made of standard retail display grid, cut slightly to fit and mounted on trim channel from (3). Easy to find used.
To attach things to the panels or gridwall I use a mix of 1" webbing, cable straps, and 1/4" bungie cord. The 2" cable strap is strong enough to hold even heavy stuff like my ladder or kinetic rope firmly in place for a whole trip.
On the outside I have some more molle panels for shovel, axe, and diesel heater in winter. On the other side I have a maxtraxx mount. Upgraded the struts all around (13" 100#) and they hold the extra weight up easily.
