i just spent the last two hours reading through this at work and forgetting im at work. Amazing build
25.08.13 / Starlink Mini locked solution
Alright! I locked a solution to hardwire the Starlink Mini to the rig.
Janky wiring diagram:
Parts: Blue Sea Switch, Generic 12v booster.
I relocated the dish from the GFC to over the cab and brought switches into the cab (via engine bay and firewall). This dramatically cut the length of the cable run and keeps everything neat and out of sight.
The Starlink can now run off my house battery or an alternative usb c source in the back seat of the cab as a redundancy (e.g. goal zero yeti) with the flip of a switch.
Setup has been incredible, especially the unlock of being able to use the dish while in-motion. Passenger can take zoom calls while cruising down roads in the middle of nowhere. Absolutely game changing.
I should also mention that alignment has not been an issue… even with the dish facing the “wrong way” and with the rig parked on a hill, I’m still experiencing 99.9% uptime.
ps. @elliott I actually had that exact USB-C charger on order, but the vendor had a multi-week lead time and once I pivoted to wiring to cab was no longer needed. I may re-order in future to place it elsewhere. such a cool unit.
pps. @shadesbro I also considered this kit before I opt’d on a solution that could toggle between battery sources. I may still pick one up as a solution to using the dish off the rig, looks well built!
Dialed as always. Really great to see that direction hasn’t had any real affect on speed.
25.08.24 / Jump Seat Swap
Quick update in the cab: The driver side goose gear seat delete platform is temporarily out, and the seat is back in. Making room for a friend from Japan who’s joining us for a backpacking trip in Yosemite next week
This was my first time test fitting the stock seat alongside the goose gear wall plate and the molle we use to mount our paddles (that I’m not a fan of tbh—but I digress). Cool to see that everything fits neatly and that we can still house our fridge in the same place with the seat collapsed.
I’ll likely keep this configuration for the foreseeable future. I’ve been in a bind on one too many occasions where the third seat would have been helpful to avoid friends from having to call lyfts.
…with that being said, if anyone is in the market for a driver-side Goose Gear base plate and drawer (and doesn’t need the backplate), hit me up!
