Leaving the forum due to poor participation

I have been here a couple of years and admit that I have been very disappointed in the very low level of member participation, especially follow up comments to my threads,… Plus I loathe the glitchy and very odd design of the software. It is very un-user friendly on an iPad.

I doubt that I will be back.

Sorry to see you go, John. Wish you all the best in your future adventures. Cheers!

It’s a ghost town. I came back to ask the community for some help and am just pretty much talking to myself on a thread. :+1:

Before you do leave I am always looking to connect with more GFC owners in WA so I will send you a DM!

Sorry I only jump on here every few days and have met some solid people through it, however completely understand. Forums are a dying breed with Facebook Groups taking over most topics but it’s kind of gross at times!!!

Forums peaked 2 years ago. Now it is a ghost town.

I completely agree. I’ll get messages about wanting to purchase mounts and then never hear from them again when I respond. Is there an active Facebook group that is taking over?

GFC’s complete abandonment of this forum probably doesn’t help. It’s ironic they market this community as a selling point for their products but can’t be bothered to do the bare minimum here.

Odd, I find this forum helpful all the time. :man_shrugging:t3:

I am with @YetiX Forum is less active than other places for sure, but the people on it are really great people that are super helpful. I have met dozens of folks I now call friends because of it. Can’t say that about too many places on the internet.

I agree. This is one of the more helpful forums out there with loads of info.

I find the forum helpful, especially since I’m not on other social media. The Post your Pudding thread is always up toward the top, people out using their GFCs- what it is all about.

The forums died when they had the massive restructure and eliminated the community focused positions. GFC has been in life saving mode as they retool for the greater part of the last year after full ownership/management shift.

The forums are a shell of what they used to be and thats being generous. I’m hopeful they regain some traction but that is unlikely to happen without a full focus on community building and I don’t know if that can happen until everything else is fixed.

Forums are only as good as the people using them.

I also agree I found it too difficult to create a topic- I modified rain gutter attachments I bought from GFC - could not figure out how to start a post and attach photos etc- so gave up after 2 hours of trying…

The Facebook Group is a bit all over the place, but this forum has an incredible amount of searchable info that is great.

Participation has definitely slid over the last couple years, but I still find a bunch of good info and ideas in here.

Don’t forget us readers-only. One PRO forum vote from me. When I’m on, typically inspired by a post that makes the weekly round up, I always find it interesting. But yes, can see your point. Thanks for the post - interesting to see the varied responses!

I occasionally return to the forum for research, but rarely post anymore. I wasn’t aware of a massive restructuring and management shift at GFC, but I noticed that Mike Meier hasn’t posted in a long time.

Is there a thread detailing these changes in the company, or would you care to post more about it?

Facebook/IG/etc. are great for promoting a product, but are nearly worthless for anything past getting attention. For years, I’ve been critical of GFC’s heavy use of low value social media while largely ignoring their own site, FAQ, and forum.

When the V1 hinge failures occurred, GFC didn’t even bother to email customers about the problem or resolution. I stumbled onto this forum in my search for information - no email from GFC about the creation of their own forum, either.

I’m with you and others about the value of this forum. A customer shouldn’t have to wade through truck forum posts to find answers about GFC products. Maybe someone from GFC could offer some stats on its use, along with any plans to improve it.

True. Maybe GFC is doing a better job today of steering people to this forum, but in the past, they promoted it poorly.

How quickly do GFC staff respond to questions? Being quick to answer demonstrates the value the company assigns to the forum.

it literally says right there “New Topic”
and then you can just drag and drop pictures or copy and paste photos directly…

this is a lot easier to use than many other older style forums…
