My experience with OD was similar to beagleybop. They provided a 4 hour window and showed up an hour or two before that window unannounced. Luckily I was home and it wasn’t too much of an inconvenience. The unloading/acceptance was straight-forward for me.
So you never received a notification from GFC?
Yes, there’s a notification from GFC days before with the tracking for the freight co so you’ll get the estimated date. The local office of the freight company will call to tell you the delivery time (2 days early in my case I think) You might be able to ask for a different scheduled time but I didn’t try.
The driver didn’t seem to be in a rush when dropping it, and watched me open and inspect it, then struck up a conversation after. Nothing like a drop and go UPS/FedEx delivery. Take the time to open it and check everything out.
FWIW everything worked out great with mine and I’m a happy camper
I did change the delivery for mine once OD gave me the window. I called the appointments clerk and it was a piece of cake.
Is anyone running the superlite on a prinsu rack mounted to a 5th gen 4runner? if so I have a question about the rear bar on the rack if you’d be willing to shoot me a PM.
Anyone interested in buying my superlite spot? I paid for mine in January so you would be part of the second batch.
Good evening sir, we have order #11393 for a super lite, it is not showing on the order board that was posted, have not had any communication since may 11 asking what vehicle it is going on.
Is the order good to go? Thanks!
Taylor no longer works for GFC, it might be best to shoot an email to support@gfcengineering.com to get a hold of one of our customer service folks to help you figure that!
Copy. Thank you sir. Email sent
You bet amigo!!! Let us know if you need anything else
does anyone know if we need to put on loctite each time we mount it?
Is there anyone in the Bay Area that’d show me their tent? Hoping to see if I fit before we go through the effort of finalizing my order.
I’d be interested in your spot! Let me know if it’s still available.
Got my superlite today. Cool tent but I’m pretty sure gfc sent the wrong hardware. The bolts they sent are way way to long to mount the tent to my prinsu. The hardware also does not match the hardware in their mounting video. lol they sent me 14 of these long ass bolts……?
Hi there!
From this week forward (7/12/21 - 7/16/21), SuperLite mounting hardware will include grade 8 hex head bolts instead of the hex socket head cap screws that we used to include—the mounting straps and t-nuts will remain the same. In short, the hex socket head cap screws have proved to be robust and have sufficiently met the demand of the nearly 500 SuperLites that we have shipped to customers. With that said, we believe switching to a hex head bolt will make the install/removal process go a little more smoothly.
So to answer your question, we sent you the correct hardware. If the bolts that we provided are too long for your application, then you can cut them to a proper length—this is one of the benefits of grade 8 hardware. If you prefer to source shorter bolts at your local hardware store instead, this too can easily be achieved since the majority of such places sell grade 8 hardware. We include two different bolt sizes with all SuperLites: 5/16"-18 x 2-1/2" and 5/16"-18 x 2-3/4".
Let us know if you need anything else!

Just another disappointment from GFC. Let’s not communicate this, send out our products and then wait to let everyone know when the customer contacts us confused. The draw to the superlite was it’s universal mounting hardware that should already be manufactured/included with the tent! Not something customers have to go modifying on their own. Also you did not send two different bolt lengths all 14 are the same.
Slamin, installation note in the package would have been helpful for sure. But unless it’s an optical illusion, from yr photo it looks like the bolts are too different sizes as the support guy said.
It’s most definitely an illusion. Will take a photo when I get back from my trip.
If you have two complete sets of the same bolt, that is absolutely an oversight on our end. Please reach out and we can help take care of that.
Regarding the rollout of information about switching from socket heads to hex bolts, the intention was to make the installation easier, not more complicated. But your point that we could have done a better job informing customers what to expect in that swap is totally valid. The hex bolts are simpler because you can use a box wrench (especially a ratcheting box wrench) that is a lower profile solution than an Allen key or an Allen driver.
The reason we won’t be able to provide every length of bolt for every type of rack is that there are simply too many different mounting solutions. Because of the track mounting interface, special care is needed to be used to make sure that the fastener does not bottom out in the track before you get the mount installed tightly. If the bolt is too long, it will collide with the extruded aluminum track before you can actually get the part to clamp.
Either way, please shoot us an email at support@gfcengineering.com and we will get you taken care of.
