We will be mounting on a 2019 Subaru Forester — what cross bars did you end up purchasing? Will I need the offset brackets in addition to different crossbars? Any info on your mounting experience is greatly appreciated!
I got the Yakima JetStream Crossbars 70". The offset brackets were not available when I got my tent so I needed to get the 70" bars so that I can offset the whole tent on either side of the Forester side rails. Its worked out fine so far and I have room to mount an awning on the other end of the crossbars.
I can’t speak too wether or not the offset brackets will work. I did initially get Thule Aero Bars and there was not enough room mount the Superlite, I would also recommend Yakima over Thule anyway, I found they have more room for width adjustment, which is helpful because the Forester side rails are narrower in the back (eye roll).
I don’t have any pictures that would be helpful for you to see regarding mounting the tent but once I got the correct cross bars it was pretty straight forward. Set the Superlite mounting rails just to the side of the Yakima crossbar towers and the use the stock mounting brackets and bolts that came with your tent =)
Let me know if you have any more questions.
I have an arb awning mounted on my prinsu rack with my superlite and the superlite is center.
What vehicle or width of prinsu rack do you have? Are you using the ARB awning brackets or the prinsu (standard or low profile)?
4runner using the prinsu low profile brackets
Any chance you have a pic of where the Superlite and awning brackets come together? Looks like the 4runner uses the same 47in crossbars as my RAV4. Mine should fit then if I upgrade to the low profile brackets.
Awesome, thanks! May have to invest in the low profile brackets as I’m not sure mine will fit very well with the regular brackets. Any issues with the awning hitting your doors when they open?
@GFC_Support any recent news on the quick release locking system yet? I haven’t been able to make any of the IG live sessions for a month or so.
Mine’s finally arrived at the Portland dock — excited to head up and get it this morning! To those of you who’ve done that, did you just throw it up on the roof still in the box and strap it down tight, or did you put it in a truck bed? Wondering if I need to borrow a buddy’s truck for the initial pickup to make it easy. I guess I could try installing it there at the dock, but not sure what their situation is,. One way or another, I want to open it up and check for damage prior to accepting it.
When you’re picking up your tent how much notice do they give you? I’m thinking it will take most of two days to drive from Truth or Consequences, NM to Belgrade. Trying to plan my trip out.
Hey there,
Thanks for reaching out! We have not hosted an IG live show in a while, so you have not missed much
In reference to the quick release mounts, they are currently available on our website. They are designed to work with any t-track rack/crossbar set up that runs in a side to side orientation of the vehicle—systems that run in a front to rear orientation will not work (e.g., Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform). You will need to source t-nuts from the manufacturer of your track system and countersunk bolts in order for the quick release system to mount properly: How to Install your GFC Superlite Quick Release - YouTube
As seen in the above video, a locking mechanism can be purchased separately. This ensures no tent thief can steal your beloved SuperLite. With that said, it is important that the locks are maintained properly. The locks for the quick release system are the same ones used on our V2 camper and RTT. As a result, we made a lock maintenance video to prevent any potential issues from arising out in the field: How to maintain your GFC Locks - YouTube
As always, if you or someone else has any questions or concerns, please send us an email at support@gfcengineering.com

Has anyone who has received their superlite yet been sleeping in it with an exped duo? Trying to see how the fit is before ordering one. I know it’s ~2inches wider than the tent, but it sounded like it fit ok with just a little flex on the sides of the tent.
Anybody had luck mounting the superlite to a rhino rack pioneer platform? Or have any tips for making it easier? I had to remove the parallel slats on the platform to access the crossbars underneath. It works but not ideal. It also was a pain trying to fit my hands underneath the platform to tighten the clamps with the rack’s low profile. Overall a great first weekend camping with the superlite in the OBX.
So funny, I was just about to post this! We already had a Duo so I was banking on it to work — and it does! Right here you can see what the tent looks like when the Superlite is closed with the megamat mostly deflated, with a down quilt on top of the Duo. I did try this with the megamat completely inflated (plus quilt) and that was a bit of a stretch. The Superlite still closed, but the cinch-downs were fully extended. To me, it was less about the sides being pushed out and more just having to squish the tent top down with some force to get the buckles to reach. In short: a thinner mattress would be easier, but if you don’t mind doing some inflate/deflate, it zips up very easily — as easily as if it were empty, basically.
Awesome! Thanks for the reply. Looks great!
What bars are you using on that forester?
Picked mine up Friday the 13th. I didn’t understand that there’s a difference between pickup and install. I was very early and when the install crew showed up they took pity on me. I’m 71 and had a stroke last November. I don’t move so good now. Fortunately for me Matt took an interest and got the job done quickly. I appreciated all of his advice. He owns a Superlite himself. They were scheduled to install 11 of those camper/tents that sit on a pickup bed, and they were lining them up outside the office. Impressive sight.
Great to see all the Superlites out there in the wild, being mounted on all sorts of rigs.
Anyone have pics of how you’re leaning and securing the collapsible ladder?
The ladder comes with brackets that attach to the rails and the ladder attaches to those using the supplied straps. How to Mount a Ladder to your GFC Superlite - YouTube
