what’s up everyone. I currently have a V1 camper that the zipper has failed on the window. Currently have been emailing back and forth with the service team at GFC but was curious if any users on here had any solutions for this? Or if anyone has upgraded the V1 tent. Does the basic V2 tent fit as a direct replacement?
I have this issue with the V2 currently and was going to attempt to use shoe goo to reattach the pieces.
Yeah i read through people doing that too. I looked a little closer and the teeth of the zipper are actually broken aswell so reattaching wont do much for my case. I guess i could just glue and then not have the zipper go beyond a certain point
I had the zippers come off like that - I took it back to HQ and they stitched the zippers in rather than that heat seal. But I live in BZN so it was pretty easy to manage.
The only concern I have is that stitching punched a line of holes on both sides of the zipper., but so far it’s not super leaky or anything.
You can put seam seal on that to stop any little leaking. REI sells it for tent repair
Customer service will tell you to buy the gorilla glue or the V2 Zipper Delamination kit. Same happened to me with my V2. Apparently they fixed future tents by stitching them on instead of glue. Lucky us.
Unfortunately as I understand it the V2 tent isn’t readily compatible with the V1 campers either. The V1 has all those snap in connections, where the V2 uses something called a keder (?) cord in a channel to hold the tent in place.
GFC has this link about the new V2 Pro tent. At one point there was some information about making that tent available with snaps to be compatible with the V1 campers, but I don’t see anything current. I think your best bet would be to see if you can get the slider to a working point on the zipper and then stitch or glue the zipper strip back in place.
Good luck whatever route you take!
Yeah thats kind of what im thinking too
The more i look into this, i think im going to pull the tent out and have one of the seamstress at my work help fix the zipper and add a side door.
Update on this. I’ve got supplies purchased to put a new zipper on the window as well as supplies to add my own side door. Total cost in material about $100
If you are anywhere near a Boat Marina that has some house boats or cabin class boats ask them who they use to makes and/or repairs the canvas boat enclosures.
They should be able to advise you.
I’m in Nashville TN and that it how I got my 97 Jeep soft top repaired.
thats actually a great point
Where are you approximately located
im in Denver
I met a guy while camping the past two weeks in Upper Michigan. He has a vintage pop-up camper and he told me about a place in Wisconsin that custom made his canvas. They are located in Wisconsin. Give them a call and see what they can do. I just called them to see if they would be interested.
Bear Creek Canvas.
