V1 Tent help

You’re correct.

V1 = snap attachment
V2 = Keder system

If GFC ever releases another tent upgrade for the V1, I’d like to see them ditch the snaps and offer a Keder upgrade to a V1. I already upgraded my V1 to a new (snap) tent, but I’m considering adding Keder rail to the frame and sewing Keder fabric to the tent.

Hey @Bholm91 - do a google search for custom canvas makers in Denver. There are some boat cover and big event tent/awning companies in town. There’s a lot of satisfaction in paying a small amount for a repair… and maybe they can sew-in an entire new zipper so you’re not stuck with the old broken teeth.

THAT SAID… I’ve been flirting with the v1.5 tent upgrade because I’d like to get the better ventilation (thus less condensation) that they got right on the v2 platform. Even in arid CO and UT, if we don’t have direct morning sun, it takes quite a while for the condensation to dry out (with all windows open, after wiping with an old t-shirt).

@ParWgn How is the ventilation in the v1.5 tent? Do they have the better flow-thru (out the top) like in the v2 design? Does it appreciably reduce the condensation (and how fast it clears) in the morning? Thanks for any thoughts on this.

i have zero problems with my current tent outside of the no side door and the zipper being wonky so im not going to spend $1000 to get those things when i’ve got a friend that does this for a living and is going to add a door for me for $100.

I dont think GFC has ever not stood by there product. The V1 platform is just older and outdated compared to what they currently have.

Either way ill post some photos next week when the tents being re done.

I’ll add to whatever @ParWgn has to say.

I have one of the early v1.5 tents from 2021, with all black fabric. Compared to the v1.0 gray, heavy PVC(?) tent:

Easier to stow
Better ventilation
Less condensation / faster drying
Additional access options (with side doors)

The advantages I can think of for the v1.0 tent are durability, warmth, and being windproof. Even with that going for it, I wouldn’t choose the v1.0 tent if GFC offered both at the time of sale. [edited 5-17-2025]

Side doors weren’t much of a concern until I started carrying a motorcycle on a hitch hauler. Having tent access without unloading/loading the bike made the cost of the upgrade easier to accept.

I have #68, so road grime had worked its way into the snaps over the years. I found that adding a few drops of penetrating oil to a snap made it release much easier. I also used an automotive trim tool and a small flat screwdriver to carefully separate stubborn snaps. If a male frame snap is damaged, they can be replaced.
