So, I experienced getting bricked out of my GFC last week. all but 2 of my panel locks work still (the other 4 are stuck in locked position. I know I can take them apart from the inside. The only reason I can still get into the back is I have the tabs pulled so the back is not latched. My tent is stuck in locked position, I was in 19 degree weather last week and had to drive 2 hours to a hotel because my tent is stuck. I need help with fixes that preferably aren’t using anything from GFC. Has anyone found a lock system that works? Anyone know how I get my tent part unlocked?
hair drier or heat gun to thaw it out
Some people have resorted to drilling them out; but I think that’s if it’s seized or you had a drill but no heat gun.
it’s 60 today, the locks are broken in the locked position.
try blasting it with WD-40 or PB Blaster. there might be some dirt or salt hanging things up
So, all new tents will come with this plunger lock? I just placed an order for a tent, and I’m getting a little concerned with the many issues with these units. Yes, the customer service is excellent, but like many have said, seems like there’s a lot of bandaid fixes for things. These aren’t cheap purchases, so it’s discouraging to see this.
Not saying these issues are not real, but forums for sure amplify the issues people experience.
At the root almost everyone is overall stoked on their GFCs. It is a great product and in addition has great customer service, and a great community of people around it.
Agreed, the forum surely boosts the issue side of things. From my knowledge GFC is no long using the lock. I’m sure @GFC_Support will confirm that during working hours if he cruises through this thread.
I don’t even use my tent locks to be honest. I personally, don’t have a use for them and keep meaning to take them out. The door latches and I have a love/hate relationship.
@enjoitheride Plunger Locks are no longer an option. All Campers and RTTs come with Spring Pins.
I woke my kid up who was sleeping with my LOL, you hit the nail on the head!
Link for the locks you used on the tent latches ?
@GFC_Support Thanks for all the updates on this thread. Curious if you guys are “going back to the drawing board” to try and offer a better locking solution for the tent? Or sticking with the spring pins permanently? If you guys are working on something I’d much rather wait and see what you come up with before going down the route of some of these suggestions that might involve drilling out the hole.
@babyyota that statement is accurate outside of the spelling error on roof. I just changed some verbiage to make it more clear. Thanks for the notification!
The pins on my tent locks get stuck about every two weeks. I just jiggle the key in there after spraying some T9 on it and keep turning it until the pin pops out. Sometimes it takes 10 min, but I always do it before I leave on a trip.
It’s notable that the pin often doesn’t want to stay down either when I try to lock it. I have to push it down and turn it with my finger to get it to engage and lock.
Only panicked once when it took 15min, and it’s never happened in the field. Mine was installed in Nov '21.
