What have you done to your GFC this week

thanks for asking this question. i would like to mount it in the fender with refill access next to the fuel cap. i considered putting it above the driver wheel well but i am unsure if the diesel smell would annoy me. that would be an easier route for me.

Awesome. Love to see what happens with this!

For now I drilled 2 small 3/8th holes in my face plate with rubber grommets inserted.

One of them I route my controller to run the heater.

The other my fuel line runs out and I have the tank mounted inside the cab above in the Tacoma T-Track.

Finally finished up my downstairs lights. Pretty stoked with how they turned out:

Did you get them done in black or did they come like that? Looks great!

Nope, used plasti dip on the backside, didn’t want the white catching my eye in the rear view.

I think it’d be cooler if they came just like this, so it looks slick in the bed, but when you open you can easily see items.

Still a lot to do, but the main part of the build is finished. I decided to build a slide out extension so I wouldn’t have to do any drilling to my gfc for the wood stove and to be able to turn my 5’ bed into a 7’. I can sleep down stairs when there are high winds or if I’m just feeling lazy. Also the added benefit of having a little extra room to hangout in when it’s raining and I’m stuck inside of the camper. I will be adding a fold down kitchen area to this as well. I know this isn’t an ideal setup for most people, but I’ve been dreaming of this for a long time and couldn’t be happier.

Tangentially GFC related.

Chucked a ARB twin compressor in my wheel well and wired it up to a switch panel in a 4xe cowl panel. Debating if I can get the good parking at the airport now.

This is so rad. If you don’t mind my asking, what was the total cost to do this?

I just have been using a portable 150psi unit from harbor freight. It does the job but I’m a sucker for cool factor.

@Dogandagladiator It’s expensive but I have a thing for OEM+, clever use of space, and functionality.

ARB Twin Compressor
Compressor Mounting Bracket
4xe Door Conversion

To save money you can do just the bracket and the chuck and switch is under the hood but it gets windy where I live.

Before the kit was available I had this idea and looked for the 4xe parts. They were expensive and unobtanium. What they’re charging for the kit is so close to the cost of the parts I thought it was worth it.

Also, the ARB compressor is pretty fast, really reliable, and kind of the go to. Playing with it last night it filled all four of my tires simultaneously from 25 psi to 37 psi in under a minute.

Yeah it looks really good. When I decide to upgrade I’m pretty positive this is what I’m doing.

Do you have a cover to protect the compressor from everything or just straight raw-doggin’ it how it’s shown?

The fender liner covers it up and the intakes for the compressor are extended up into the engine bay.

I let my friend’s pup hangout in the GFC.

Did you buy the splash guard as well? Only concerns is how exposed the heater is to mud. Looking at doing the Lavaner Pro which has sealed electronics at least.

I have the same setup from Nick. I did not have the splash guards or stock mudflaps. Spent a weekend skiing and driving some crazy muddy roads and the entire unit (cheap Vevor unit) was caked with mud. Still fired up and worked fine.

I have since installed mudflaps (Rek Gen) on my tacoma and that has helped tremendously!! Nick did send me out the splashguard he makes as well. I just haven’t had the time to get under the truck, broke my foot.

Ok good to know. Yea I have pulled out that cubby in the past and it was caked with a thick layer of mud. I would likely try to modify more coverage along with his guard

Ya, makes sense. I actually posted on the Chinese Diesel forum about it and got so many hits with people saying they’ve ran them under their campers with zero protection for years. Not saying to do that but builds some confidence.

Mine is a 5Kw-8kw unit and it took some fines to get it in as 1 person.
