Oh, I thought you were just doing an off-season deep clean. You’ll be missed. Be sure to stop back by occasionally.
Not even close. I will be covering a lot of it in a video but it’s much deeper than just a product swap.
Developed a ton of friendships here that I know I will stay close with!
the only doubt I have for SP is whether it is as sturdy as GFC when it comes to jumps and Baja action.
I’ve seen trucks with GFC go fast in the desert and catching air and come back as if nothing happened. I go fast in the desert but I don’t want to be the guy testing it for SP lol just in case it’s not jump rated and I end up sending it through my rear window
Fair enough but I would also question how many folks who own the GFC and that is their primary focus. I would say a vast majority are only on forest service roads, doing light crawling, etc.
Then you maybe have the 5% who do the “extremes”.
I’ve definitely had mine in the air (while in Baja) and it’s been fine and I’m guessing the SP would handle that just as well.
I am looking forward to seeing the video, a lot of people have been asking me to do stuff for the SP but I have no access to one lol
Like many projects in life the GFC buildout has taken a little longer than first expected. My goals likely differ from many as I have a family of 6. Wanting to create a secondary platform for three kids plus slide out for PullKitchen and large fridge/freezer with some additional storage to support adventures for our family.
Got the box built this weekend that will be the foundation for the full platform when done. The ‘electrical side’ of the box will have air compressor, DCDC, inverter, secondary battery, solar input and be the home for wiring. Have a long day of wiring and a long day of finishing touches that will wait until it gets a bit warmer.
Where did you get your panel for the back window? I like that it has the cut out for the window which most don’t seem to have.
oh yeah totally agree. By no means I’m knocking SP at all. Was just saying I was interested due to the asking price but I’m skeptical about its reliability with my usage. I should’ve included that in my original post.
And plus I like to over-engineer things and prepare for things that has less than 1% chance of happening. My thinking is if it’s good to handle things at extreme it will be good to handle normal activities.
That’s sweet! nice work , I have to say, I am however envious of your fastener supply .
Underland Off-road bought the plans and now makes them. Slightly different then version one that I have. Underland Offroad GFC Back Wall Molle Panel
Picked up my GFC last week in MT! Excited to be a new member of the GFC club. Did an awesome trip from Sacramento, CA to Belgrade, MT and back through northern Idaho down through Bend, OR. First night camping was at the Bozeman Hot Springs, super cool place I’d recommend staying at for a turn key camping solution when in the area in cold weather.
Finished mounting and wiring the supply side of my Redarc Rogue:
Finished modeling/printing/installing my led light brackets:
Since buying the GFC I have longed for an idea to help close the wedge. with Lumbering Bear (the ursus) making a sweet pull-down for the V2 - and having some left over anchors from my seat delete, I came up with a plan.
Step 1 - Assemble parts which includes these anchors I purchased off Amazon and assorted hardware I had laying around
Step 2 - Drill into GFC handle / slide - I used a step drill bit and made mine about 15 inches in from the sides, for no real reason - wider might be better yet but this so far seems fine
Step 3 - This was for sure a bit more tricky as there is like zero room for my hand (at least) so I used painters tape to firstly hold the washer to the anchor whilst I got the bolt through, and then used it on the back side of the spanner to hold the nut in place, then blindly held out for a miracle to get the nut started (didnt take too long) - my only worry is whether the thread lock part of the nut has actually caught - time will tell pretty quickly thou I guess
Step 4 - I started using some gutted 550 cord - including some wiring heat shrink to protect around the hardware but wasn’t too happy with that, the 550 has some stretch to it - so I pivoted and decided on a couple ready made Mammut Dyneema 120cm slings, thin enough to pass through the anchors, thick enough they are likely not to break too soon and long enough to give some options
The proper way.
Very nice!
Perfect! I installed mine back in December from Nick at Tigli on the passenger side. Such a huge space saver!!
How did you decide to store your fuel? I took apart my Vevor heater and got it in there.
