What's your bedding setup?

Another vote for modular. I’ll probably just end up using my megamat until/unless this becomes a reality.

All Season set up High Quality, Light, Versatile Multipurpose Functions.

Thanks to this GFC forum I’ve been able to do a lot of research and create a system that works for me.

My interest and ideas are from a background in Backpacking for over 50 years "Yup I am an old guy!

In keeping with “My Philosophy” ,High Quality, Light, Versatile Multipurpose Functions.

I begin with my pads 2 ExPed Megamat but NOT the Duo! Why? ,we all know the duo fits however so does two of the Megamat 10LXW they are snug side by side a desirable feature so that creates a snug fit against the edges of the tent 60 x 78 it creates a space for storage at the low end of the tent I also I wanted versatility for one of us to sleep in the tent and one to be able to sleep outside the tent.

Recently there has been quite a bit on the forum about bedding set ups I was very interested in some of the down quilt options however blanket is not as versatile as a sleeping bag.

When comparing sleeping bags to quilts I want all options at my fingertips.

  1. A blanket (warmer climates)

  2. A sleeping bag.( I don’t have to sleep in the tent if I don’t want to)

  3. Down( there’s no comparison when considering weight compressibility and warmth)

  4. Two bags that I can zip together.

  5. A Bag that opens up completely functions just like a quilt or blanket zips all the way down to the bottom foot box with a separate zipper.

  6. Able to be stored in the tent when closed.

8.High Quality 850+ RDS certified traceable down

  1. Made in the USA

How’s progress on the sheets coming? Curious how much material you ordered?

The material came in a 42" width, so I ordered 8 yards. Don’t remember how much was left over but I think it’s enough to make a pair of sleep shorts… not pants though. Finished the sheets the next day after posting that. It doesn’t take long to make them. I think I may have a few hours invested in the whole thing. I will say that those sheets (any flannel sheets really) and the @Aeronaut blanket are a pretty nice combo.

Hey y’all, new to the rtt world and I was just curious about something. For the superlite, are y’all leaving the GFC mattress in it? I noticed once I tried closing it that it was much bulkier and not all the Velcro makes contact.

Please advise and thank you in advance.

How does it close with the 1.5" foam on there?

I have a V1. It doesn’t close with the 1.5" memory foam in the tent. I have a bedding bag that I use for storing the memory foam pad and electric blanket setup. That gets put in the truck bed on luxury outings with the wife.
Full disclosure, when camping solo without my wife, I use a 1" traditional foam pad with an appropriate sleeping bag on top of the GFC padding; cabana mode. Sometimes I’ll also use a therma-rest mattress if doing strenuous activities and want some extra comfort.
I do store the 1" pad in the tent and I keep the therma-rest in my truck all the times so I can use that as needed.
Hope that’s helpful.

Peace.

Here’s my current set up that will be going into the GFC. Tested out this quit over the weekend at 25 degree temps and the Aeronaut kept us nice and warm. I threw a lightweight blanket over the top to protect it from the dogs and another one underneath so I wasn’t sleeping directly on the pad. This will be replaced by sheets at some point Hough. Been super impressed with this pad as well, knock off version of the Exped Megamat and super comfy. The dimensions for this pad is 52x80 so the figment should be perfect for the XL camper.

Oh dang @blackhearse I’m sorry for the radio silence!! Things are a little nuts on our end and I’m out of the country at the moment for a wedding.

Latest update – Talking with factory friends, we’d need at least 300 sets for our 1st order, so I’m still gauging if it’s worth doing and that we wouldn’t be sitting on a couple hundred in my garage for a year. I’m super stoked on this concept and working to land some prototypes to show / loan out for testing and see if that generates even more stoke! :call_me_hand:

You would end up sitting on some but think about the math. GFC is approaching or surpassed the 3000 (built and reserved) camper mark??? I don’t know the ratio of XL\regular. Is that 300 minimum only for 1 size? i’m sure if the price was right 10% of camper owners would spring for a better mattress especially if GFC were to offer cushion delete or out right upgrade. do the leg work and see where it goes. from what I see you guys are chummy. safe travels

Yep, we leave it in there with blankets (Rumpl). The velcro won’t contact, but that’s to be expected. We’re going to try sleeping bags plus blankets on the next trip so there’s less to tear down.

If the mattress isn’t fully inflated and we don’t keep any bedding up there, the velcro will secure, though generally only at the front. The rear always is a little taller because of the tent fabric being the bulkiest in the rear.

Oh: and we do have a 1.5 inch memory foam topper too.

Surprisingly that’s the set up that I went with. A sleeping bag and two blankets. Kept warm at night that’s for sure.

Looks like the dark roof may be the inside of a Superlite.
