Superlite is here!

Any superlite owners come up with any tricks/tips for mounting/un-mounting it solo?

I’m mounting it to a RAV4 with a Prinsu rack and I’m thinking it will be easiest to unbolt the crossbars with the tent each time rather than messing around with hardware between the rack and the roof. I don’t live in the nicest neighborhood and do not have a garage so I’ll likely have to remove it when not in use. Longer term I’m considering security hardware and possibly some sort of lock to the side runner of the Prinsu which might be enough to leave it mounted 24/7.

Will also look at the quick connect with locks once the locks are released and I can see functionality/price.

Laying in it seems very solid. Your legs are pointed down towards the wedge and so not a lot of weight is ‘unsupported’. Your center of mass and majority of the weight is positioned within the space between the 2 factory crossbars so I have no concerns.

Driving at highway speeds, there is a slight increase in wind noise from the 4 straps up front but I haven’t seen the tent itself be impacted by the wind

Having slept in it solo and soon to add my partner on a camping trip this weekend, I’ll let you know how it goes with 2 adults

Don’t know what kind of snowboard rack you had but over the winter, I had the Kuat Switch 6 loaded with 4 pairs of skis+poles and it was super solid

GFC’s testing method seems to be to take it to the extreme so if they’re jumping a 4Runner with the Superlite on the factory rack, they might have some hesitancies in recommending the same setup, minus the jumping

Think of it this way- How many trucks/SUVs have you seen rolling down the interstate with a Thule/Yakima cargo box? You can bet that the cargo box+gear loaded into duffel bags or whatever far exceeds the weight of the Superlite, which comes in at only 80 pounds. I have no concerns about the Superlite up there

Thank you that’s exactly what i was looking for :ok_hand:

Yeah, I see your point. I wasn’t so much talking about just the superlite but when you have two people up there.

@SlaminEpi29 I would be happy to purchase your spot from you and all you have to do is tell them you need to change the shipping address. I would even pay your more than you paid for it.

@Dempster333 if you want to sell you spot let me know I would pay over msrp.

Im pretty sure we have texted about this?

Shit sorry I didn’t realize you were the same person I was talking to. My bad.

with no more space for an awning, I found the Moon awning and give it a thumbs up!

75xx and just received tracking info.

Would you want to sell it if your unhappy about the logo?

Nice!
I just picked mine up from freight an hour ago. I have those exact Yakima HD racks-- any tips on mounting the Superlite on them? Did you use the included mounting hardware? If so, which holes did you use? Did you have to cut or remove any of the rubberized strip that Yakima uses to fill the slot ? Anything I should look out for?
Thanx for any help at all!
Aloha

Yes included hardware, outer holes. Only thread the nuts like one thread or so to start, if you go further you may think the bolts aren’t quite long enough for these HD bars. They are but it’s pretty tight. Once you get the first one in it all becomes clear. I left the rubber in place. The aluminum will dent the rubber, probably permanently, but didn’t bother me.

Thank you for that!
Hey, by any chance, did you have to mount it off-center? The brackets even with the longest screws, could not make it around the corner bracket that joins the upright and cross bar…so it looks like im going to have to cheat it over quite a bit to make it work. The positive is that it leaves over a foot of crossbar on one side, which i can use for my fishing pole etc

great little attachment made by @fred_runner on Instagram that slides into the rails on the underside of the Superlite and now I can use a roof rod to make an awning etc. Love it when people problem solve!
